BROWNS LEGEND KOSAR SET FOR TRANSPLANT
Cleveland Browns legend Bernie Kosar is finally scheduled to undergo life-saving liver transplant surgery today (Monday) following a series of setbacks.
The former quarterback, now 61, announced the news from his hospital bed on Sunday night, having previously revealed that an operation had been planned for last weekend only to be postponed after doctors discovered that the donor liver was infected. In the days since, Kosar has undergone five procedures to stop internal bleeding as his condition — he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson’s disease in 2023 — worsened.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Kosar became a Browns icon after entering the league via the 1985 supplemental draft out of the University of Miami and leading the team to three AFC Championship Game appearances. He still ranks third in franchise history with 21,904 passing yards.
Kosar thanked fans for their messages of support, saying their prayers ‘mean the world’ as he prepares for the critical procedure — and the football community now awaits updates on one of the sport’s most beloved quarterbacks as he faces the biggest fight of his life.
