DAZN WEEKEND PREVIEW: WEEK 4

DAZN WEEKEND PREVIEW: WEEK 4

Neil Dutton NFL

In the old days, we could talk about Week 4 as the quarter pole of an NFL season. Since the move to 17 games, the maths gets a little trickier — but the excitement continues regardless, as the NFL seems to have become a league of tight finishes. The first three weeks of the 2025 season has seen 15 match-ups decided by a game-winning score in either the final three minutes of regulation or overtime, the highest total through Week 3 in NFL history!

There are six 3-0 teams left right now, while six others are yet to register a victory. Something must give in both regards, with the Bucs and Eagles clashing in a battle of 3-0 teams while the Jets and Dolphins will scrap to avoid falling to 0-4 on the year. There is plenty of excitement in store across America and ‘across the pond’, with the first European match of the 2025 International Series taking place on Sunday in Dublin. So where better to start our look at the Week 4 schedule?

GAME OF THE WEEK

Minnesota Vikings (2-1) @ Pittsburgh Steelers (2-1)
NFL International Series (Dublin)

The NFL hits the Emerald Isle for the first ever regular season game to be held in Dublin, with two 2-1 squads colliding. This isn’t the first time these two teams have met in the International Series, with Wembley hosting a clash between the two back in 2013 with the Vikings pulling off a 34-27 win on the back of a virtuoso performance from Adrian Peterson. That was also the Steelers only previous International Series appearance, while the Vikings are currently 4-0 in such games.

Minnesota comes into the game after absolutely boat-racing the Cincinnati Bengals 48-10 in Week 3, largely due to a defensive game for the ages from cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. The former Eagle forced two fumbles and scored two defensive touchdowns, an 87-yard pick six and a 66-yard fumble recovery, becoming the first player in NFL history with an interception return touchdown of 85-or-more yards and a fumble return touchdown of 65-or-more yards in the same game.

Carson Wentz also stepped in for the injured J.J. McCarthy and put up 173 yards with two touchdowns, while Jordan Mason rushed for 116 yards and scored twice on the ground in the absence of Aaron Jones. Stud wide receiver Justin Jefferson is off to a slightly slow start to the season, with just 12 receptions and 200 receiving yards through three games, but he averages almost 120 receiving yards in International Series games in his career, so will be looking for a 2025 breakout this weekend.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, no stranger to the Vikings after a long career with the Green Bay Packers, notched two significant milestones in the Steelers’ 21-14 win over the New England Patriots a week ago. Rodgers moved into fourth place all time with 508 regular season touchdown passes and sixth place in passing yards, with his 63,538 yards enough to take him past Philip Rivers.

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has become something of a workhorse in the backfield, with 81 yards from scrimmage against the Patriots taking him to 274 through three games, while also leading the team with 11 receptions. D.K. Metcalf, an offseason acquisition from the Steelers, hasn’t had a true breakout game yet, with just 10 grabs and 135 yards so far, but has scored a touchdown in each of his last three games against the Vikings. Pass rusher T.J. Watt, mean while, chipped in with 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble against the Patriots, the 26th game of his career in which he has recorded at least two quarterback takedowns.

PREDICTION: It’s not as high scoring as the last European adventure between these two teams, but it is almost as exciting as the Steelers just about hold on to win.

WELL WORTH A WATCH

Philadelphia Eagles (3-0) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-0)

The Super Bowl champions and the NFC team with the longest current streak of making the playoffs meet in Week 4 of the season for the second year in a row. The Eagles are looking to move to 4-0 for the third time in as many seasons, marking the sixth time since 2015 a defending champion squad started their title defence with four wins. A 4-0 start, meanwhile, would be the first for the Bucs since the 2005 season.

Last week, the Eagles erased a 19-point second-half deficit to beat the Los Angeles Rams, in the process becoming the first team to overcome a second-half deficit of 19-or-more points since the 2023 Denver Broncos. Eagles’ defensive tackles Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis each blocked a field goal in the fourth quarter, with Davis picking up his loose ball and running it back 61 yards for the game-clinching score.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts passed for three touchdowns while rushing for another against the Rams, his fourth game in a row with a rushing score, and already has a rushing and a passing score in each of his last regular season games against the Bucs. Running back Saquon Barkley is yet to truly hit the heights he managed a year ago, but leads the Eagles with 192 yards and two touchdowns after three games. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have also endured quiet starts to their seasons, but both found the endzone last week, as did Dallas Goedert, and all three have good recent form against the Bucs. Brown posted 9-131 in his last game against them, Smith went 8-148, while Goedert has at least five receptions in three of his last matches in Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers are becoming the new ‘cardiac kids’ of the NFL, with all three of their wins this season coming with a score in the final minute of the fourth quarter. As such, they are now the third team since 1970 to record a game-winning score in the final minute of regulation in three consecutive games at any point in a single season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has thrown six touchdown passes over three weeks without a single interception, but his day won’t be made any easier with Mike Evans set to miss time with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, tied for the team lead with 14 receptions and leading the way with 181 yards and three scores, is dealing with his own injury concerns, but running back Bucky Irving has at least 80 yards from scrimmage in six of his last seven games, with 99 in the Week 3 win over the Jets.

PREDICTION: The Eagles enjoy their day in the Florida sun and move to 4-0.

Baltimore Ravens (1-2) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-2)

As incredible as it sounds, based on the last few seasons of stellar play and at times outright dominance shown by these two teams — the Chiefs and Ravens rank first and second in points per game and total yards of offense per game respectively since 2018 — one of them will be sitting at 1-3 after Week 4.

This has been one of the great recent rivalries in the NFL, with the two sides squaring off seven times in the last eight seasons and five of the last six games being decided by seven or fewer points. Despite their 1-2 record, the Ravens lead the NFL with 37 points per game this season, with Lamar Jackson playing as well as any quarterback in the league at present, with nine touchdown passes and zero interceptions through three weeks. He is looking for a 12th straight game with at least two touchdown passes and a 90+ passer rating.

Derrick Henry has 242 rushing yards after three games and has enjoyed himself in games against the Chiefs throughout his career. The King averages 109.1 yards from scrimmage in seven career meetings, but will need to find ananswer to his recent fumbling issues. Zay Flowers leads the Ravens with 16 receptions and 231 yards, but it was Mark Andrews who was the star of the show in the Ravens’ Week 3 loss to the Lions, the veteran tight end hauling in six grabs for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

As for the Chiefs, it wasn’t pretty, but they did manage to get their first win of the season on Sunday night with a 22-9 victory over the New York Giants. Patrick Mahomes passed for 224 yards and a touchdown but, through three games, has just three touchdown passes and is completing a career-low 59% of his passes. Worryingly for the Chiefs, Mahomes is also currently their leading rusher with 125 yards and two touchdowns.

Marquise Brown and Tyquan Thornton are tied with 171 receiving yards, although Brown has amassed his on 19 receptions compared to Thornton’s nine. The Chiefs star defensive players finally bared their teeth against the Giants, with Chris Jones registering his first sack of the season, George Karlaftis notching career highs with 10 tackles and three tackles for loss and Nick Bolton amassing 14 tackles, with two for a loss.

PREDICTION: It’s not a high scoring match, but the Chiefs find a way to win and improve to 2-2

ALSO ON IN WEEK 3

Seattle Seahawks (2-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (2-1)

One of the best defenses in the league takes on the inconsistent Cardinals’ offense on Thursday night. Can Kyler Murray guide his side to a seventh win in his last eight home starts, or will Sam Darnold lead his side to a ninth win in ten against the Cardinals? More importanly, perhaps, how much will James Conner’s season-ending injury unbalance Arizona?

Washington Commanders (2-1) @ Atlanta Falcons (1-2)

Marcus Mariota might draw another start against his old team, while some are already speculating that former Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins might be a better fit for the Falcons offense than the misfiring Michael Penix Jr. Can the Falcons bounce back after being shut out by the Panthers last week, or will the Commanders, under former Atlanta HC Dan Quinn, win their fifth straight match-up in this series?

New Orleans Saints (0-3) @ Buffalo Bills (3-0)

The Saints are looking for a first win of the season against a Bills side leading the league with 420 yards per game on a 13-game home winning streak. Can Kellen Moore guide his boys to a first win as a head coach — and a sixth in five meetings against the Bills — or will Buffalo build on their last meeting, which saw them dispatch the Saints 31-6 in 2021?

Cleveland Browns (1-2) @ Detroit Lions (2-1)

A clash between the last two teams to go 0-16, but with both coming off impressive wins in Week 3. The Browns did their damage on defense, holding the Packers to just 10 points, while the Lions won a 38-30 shootout with the Ravens. Can the Browns pick up back-to-back wins, or will the Lions take their fifth win in six meetings between the two?

Tennessee Titans (0-3) @ Houston Texans (0-3)

Two struggling offenses with misfiring young quarterbacks meet in this clash between two sides linked by the Baby Blue. Can C.J. Stroud build on his 8-4 record v the AFC South, or can Cam Ward pick up his first win as a pro — and ease the pressure on head coach Brian Callahan?

Carolina Panthers (1-2) @ New England Patriots (1-2)

A clash between two sides who met in Super Bowl XXXVIII but are currently a long way from competing for silverware. Can Drake Maye build on a start to the season that has seen him pass for 230+ yards in all three games, or will the Panthers notch the third straight road win in this series as they come off a shutout of the Falcons?

Los Angeles Chargers (3-0) @ New York Giants (0-3)

Can the Chargers win each of their first four games of a season for just the sixth time in franchise history — and the first since 2002 — under quarter season MVP Justin Herbert, or will the Giants get the Jaxson Dart era off to a win in a clash between two teams forever linked by the Eli Manning/Philip Rivers post-Draft trade in 2004?

Indianapolis Colts (3-0) @ Los Angeles Rams (2-1)

In five of the past 10 seasons (2015-24), a team has begun 4-0 the season after missing the playoffs. Can the Colts add to this list by going 4-0 for the first time since 2009, or can Matt Stafford take his side to a fifth straight win in this year’s Eric Dickerson Bowl?

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) @ San Francisco 49ers (3-0)

Can San Francisco start 4-0 for the third time (2019 and 2023) since head coach Kyle Shanahan was hired in 2017, or will the Jaguars notch just their third win over the 49ers all time and ruin the return of the Mac (Jones) as he takes on an old club?

Chicago Bears (1-2) @ Las Vegas Raiders (1-2)

Caleb Williams dropped the second four-touchdown game of his career on the Dallas Cowboys last week, while Geno Smith had the tenth three-touchdown game of his. Can the Bears notch a fourth win in the last five meetings between these two sides, or will Pete Carroll notch his sixth win in ten against the Bears?

Green Bay Packers (2-1) @ Dallas Cowboys (1-2)

Micah Parsons returns to Jerrah World mere weeks after being traded away following 53.5 sacks, 67 tackles for loss and nine forced fumbles in 67 games for the Cowboys. Can Dak Prescott avoid his former team-mate and continue his home Prime Time form (two touchdown passes and 95+ rating in seven of eight), or will the Packers bounce back from their humbling loss to the Browns last week and beat the Cowboys for the eighth time in nine meetings?

New York Jets (0-3) @ Miami Dolphins (0-3)

Both sides come into the game desperate to notch their first win of the season. Can Tua Tagovailoa continue his touchdown streak with at least two strikes in four of his last five games at home, or will the Jets pick up the first win of the Aaron Glenn era and beat the Dolphins for just the second time in six outings?

Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) @ Denver Broncos (1-2)

The Bengals looked dreadful in their first full game without Joe Burrow this season, while the Broncos have yet to pass for more than 206 yards in a 2025 game. Can Jake Browning recapture the form that saw him complete 86.5 percent of his passes and rack up 354 yards in his only previous primetime start, or will the stifling Broncos pass rush take Denver to their first win in three meetings between these two sides?
