DAZN WEEKEND PREVIEW: WEEK 7

DAZN WEEKEND PREVIEW: WEEK 7

Neil Dutton NFL

It’s all change through six weeks of the 2025 NFL season, with six of the eight divisions having a team in first place or tied for first place that did not win its division last season.

The New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts lead their respective AFC divisions, with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers tied for first place in the West. The NFC has the Green Bay Packers atop the North and the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks tied in the West.

The league, meanwhile, continues to see more than its fair share of nail-biting games, with 27 matchups producing a game-winning score in the final two minutes of regulation or in overtime, the most through Week 6 in NFL history. Injuries, however, continue to rob us of key players on both sides of the ball — and we’ve already seen our first firing of the campaign.

What does Week 7 have in store?

GAME OF THE WEEK

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) @ Detroit Lions (4-2)

The best game of the weekend comes on Monday night, with the current NFC #1 seeded Bucs travelling to take on the Lions in a clash between two conference powerhouses.

Tampa Bay’s best record in the NFC has seen them win five of their first six games for the fourth time since 2000 (2002, 2005 and 2021), while the Lions had won four in a row before a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6. The Bucs, led by Baker Mayfield, are sixth in points scored this season, while the Jared Goff-led Lions are averaging 31.8 points per game, good for second most in the league. These two quarterbacks are tied for the most touchdown passes in the league since 2023 with 81 scoring strikes each but, while Mayfield has passed for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns in his last three games, he might be without his top three receiving weapons this time around, with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and rookie Emeke Egbuka all nursing injuries.

Goff, meanwhile, leads the NFL with 14 touchdown passes and should have his full complement of pass-catching weapons available. Amon-Ra St.Brown is among the league leaders in all major receiving categories, ranking third in receptions, sixth in receiving yards and leading the way in touchdown grabs (44-452-8), while running back Jahmyr Gibbs is fourth in scrimmage yards and first in total touchdowns since 2023. However, Gibbs hasn’t hit 100 yards from scrimmage since Week 2, while he failed to find the endzone last week for the first time since the season opener.

The Lions lead the all-time series match-up between the two 33-30, but the Bucs have won three of the last five meetings.

PREDICTION: The Lions claw their way back into contention for the NFC with a hard fought but entertaining win.

WELL WORTH A WATCH

Indianapolis Colts (5-1) @ Los Angeles Chargers (4-2)

The Colts enter Week 7 with the best record in the AFC and have won at least five of their first six games for the first time since 2009. They also lead the NFL in scoring offense this season (32.3 points per game), while the Chargers are down in 23rd with 21.2 points per contest.

One of the stories of the season has been the play of Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, who has found a new lease of life since leaving the New York Giants in 2024. Last week, Jones became the third quarterback all-time with a touchdown pass, rushing touchdown and a passer rating of 100-or-higher in three of his team’s first six games of a season, joining Josh Allen (2020 with Buffalo) and Dak Prescott (2017 with Dallas).

His opposite number this week, Justin Herbert, passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns for 112.2 rating in L.A’s Week 6 victory over the Miami Dolphins and, in the process, became just the third player ever (after Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson) with 2+ touchdown passes and a 100+ rating in at least 35 games through their first six career seasons.

The Colts rank sixth in the NFL with 131 rushing yards per game and, in Jonathan Taylor, boast the league’s leading rusher and touchdown scorer. Taylor has 603 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground and will be matched up against a player at the opposite end of his career this weekend, as Chargers second-year back Kimani Vidal recorded career highs in scrimmage yards (138) and rush yards (124), as well as notching a first career receiving score against the Dolphins.

Colts tight end Tyler Warren has made a massive early impact for the team and leads all rookies in receptions (29) while ranking third in receiving yards (370) this season. The Chargers, however, have a promising rookie tight end of their own in Oronde Gadsen, who set career highs with seven catches and 68 receiving yards in the win over Miami.

The Colts are looking for their first victory over the Chargers since the team moved from San Diego, with their last win coming back in September 2016.

PREDICTION: The Colts move to 6-1 in a close contest.

Los Angeles Rams (4-2) @ Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)

NFL International Series – Wembley Stadium

In a clash between two 4-2 squads, the Rams and Jaguars meet at Wembley Stadium in the third and final London game of the 2025 season. This is the seventh meeting between these two sides, and the Rams have dominated the series so far, holding a 5-1 advantage.

New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen takes on his former boss Sean McVay for the first time as a peer, having made an unexpectedly promising start to his time at the helm in Jacksonville, and now bring his team to its spiritual second home in the hope of getting one over on his old boss.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford has played at Wembley twice before, going 1-1 as a member of the Detroit Lions, while opposite Trevor Lawrence, more familiar with the venue, has at least one touchdown pass in his last seven games in London.

Both sides are middle of the road in terms of offense this season, but the Rams rank third in points allowed while the Jags are not far off in seventh place. The Jaguars, though, have made takeaways a way of life this season, with a +8-turnover differential through six weeks. The Rams, however, look to be missing their star wide receiver Puka Nacua this time around, having suffered an injury early on in Week 6, which means they may lean more on their ground game and Kyren Williams. Williams has 50+ scrimmage yards in 34 straight games, the longest active streak in NFL, and is one of four players (Jahmyr Gibbs, Derrick Henry and Jalen Hurts) to score at least one scrimmage touchdown in 25 games since 2023.

Jaguars leading rusher Travis Etienne, meanwhile, has good form when playing away from the United States, with 417 scrimmage yards (104.3 per game) and three rushing touchdowns in four career international games.

The Jaguars recently traded for cornerback Greg Newsome from the Browns, and he can become the fifth player to appear in multiple international games with different teams in the same season, having travelled with Cleveland to face Minnesota in the first London game of 2025 just two weeks ago. Newsome would join Gareon Conley (2019 with Houston and Oakland), Patrick Johnson (2024 with the New York Giants and Philadelphia), Latavius Murray (2022 with Denver and New Orleans) and Adrian Peterson (2017 with Arizona and New Orleans).

PREDICTION: In a nail-biting affair, the pupil pulls off a win over the master, as the Jaguars sneak past the Rams.

ALSO ON IN WEEK 7

Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (2-4)

With Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco leading their respective new teams, this will mark the third matchup all-time between starting quarterbacks both over the age of 40 (Tom Brady and Drew Brees met twice during the 2020 season). Can the Steelers increase their lead in the AFC North, or will the Fighting Flaccos kickstart the Bengals season after four straight losses?

New Orleans Saints (1-5) @ Chicago Bears (3-2)

In this battle of first year head coaches, can the Bears continue their winning form at home to the Saints and keep pace in a competitive NFC North, or will Kellen Moore’s boys step up to haunt former Saints coach Dennis Allen, now calling the defense in the Windy City?

Miami Dolphins (1-5) @ Cleveland Browns (1-5)

Both sides are circling the drain and, with the first firing already done elsewhere, the seats under both Kevin Stefanski and Mike McDaniel might be getting hotter. Which side will win in this first clash between two left-handed quarterbacks since Mike Vick’s Falcons beat Chris Simms Buccaneers in 2006?

Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) @ Kansas City Chiefs (3-3)

Patrick Mahomes has more passing yards (4,141) and passing touchdowns (33) against the Raiders than any other team — and the Raiders cannot stop turning the ball over. Can the Chiefs finally get over 0.500 for the season, or will this clash end with both teams sitting at 3-4?

Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) @ Minnesota Vikings (3-2)

The reigning Super Bowl champs have lost two in a row and look lost on offense right now — while the Vikings are one of the best defenses in the NFL this season. Will Jalen Hurts and the Birds get right, or will Carson Wentz have his revenge over his former team?

Carolina Panthers (3-3) @ New York Jets (0-6)

Panthers running back Rico Dowdle is one of only six running backs in the Super Bowl era with 225+ scrimmage yards and a touchdown in consecutive games. The Jets are coming off an historically abysmal offensive showing in London. Can the Panthers stay hot, or will the Jets turn it around and pick up Aaron Glenn’s first win as a head coach?

New England Patriots (4-2) @ Tennessee Titans (1-5)

Mike Vrabel has his current side 4-2 and atop the AFC East. His former side fired his replacement Brian Callahan this week. Can Drake Maye stay hot against the hapless Titans, or will interim coach Mike Mccoy get the new boss bounce?

New York Giants (2-4) @ Denver Broncos (4-2)

The Broncos are the third team since 1990 with at least five sacks in four of their first six games of the season, joining the 2019 New England Patriots and 2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jaxson Dart, meanwhile, has led his Giants team to wins in two of his first three career starts and became the third quarterback since 1950 to record at least 50 rushing yards in each of his first three career starts, joining Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson. Can the Giants make it three in a row, or will the Broncos add the Giants to their list of New York victims?

Green Bay Packers (3-1-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (2-4)

The Packers are 0-1-1 in games away from Lambeau this season, while the Cardinals have lost four in a row but arguably had their best offensive performance last week without Kyler Murray. Can the Packers win their third in a row against the Cardinals, or will Jacoby Brissett and his boys snap their losing streak?

Washington Commanders (3-3) @ Dallas Cowboys (2-3-1)

Two high flying NFC East offenses collide, with the Commanders averaging 26.3 points per game and the Cowboys 29.7. Will Dan Quinn get another one over his old side, or will the Cowboys pick up their second home win of the season?

Atlanta Falcons (3-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (4-2)

The Atlanta Falcons lead the NFL in defensive yards per game…words I thought I would never write. The 49ers, meanwhile, are seemingly losing a star player a week to injury. Falcons back Bijan Robinson leads NFL with 822 scrimmage yards, most by player in his team’s first five games of season since 2019. That player was…Christian McCaffrey, who leads all running backs and ranks second in the NFL with 46 receptions, tied-most by a running back in a team’s first six games of a season all-time. Will the Falcons shut down the 49ers, or will Kyle Shanahan ruin his reunion with his old side?

Houston Texans (2-3) @ Seattle Seahawks (4-2)

Two of the best defenses in the league collide in the Pacific Northwest, with the Texans allowing a league-leading 12.2 points per game and the Seahawks 19.5. The Texans are 1-2 on the road, the Seahawks are 1-2 at home. Can the Texans beat the Seahawks for the first time since 2009, or can Sam Darnold lead his side to a 5-2 start and pole position in the NFC West?
