SCHEDULE 2026: EAGLES FACE COWBOYS ON THANKSGIVING
The first significant pieces of the 2026 NFL schedule have begun to emerge ahead of Thursday’s full release, with the league confirming a heavyweight NFC East clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day, while reports have also revealed that the Buffalo Bills will host the Detroit Lions in a Week 2 Thursday night showcase.
The NFL announced on Monday that the Cowboys will host the Eagles at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX, FOX One and NFL+.
It will mark just the third Thanksgiving meeting between the bitter NFC East rivals and the first since Philadelphia’s 33-10 victory in Arlington in 2014. The Eagles also won the franchises’ first holiday meeting, a 27-0 shutout in 1989.
The matchup immediately becomes one of the marquee fixtures on the NFL’s holiday slate, not least because the division has largely been controlled by either Philadelphia or Dallas in recent years. The Eagles have claimed three of the last five NFC East titles and will arrive in Texas chasing a third successive divisional crown, while Dallas is attempting to rebound from a disappointing 7-9-1 campaign in 2025.
The Cowboys are again expected to dominate the primetime landscape despite last season’s frustrations, with the franchise already confirmed for the Week 1 Sunday Night Football opener against the New York Giants and a Week 3 international game against the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro.
Another high-profile reveal arrived through multiple reports on Monday, with the Bills set to host the Lions on Thursday Night Football in Week 2 on September 17. The game will air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video as part of the league’s continuing streaming partnership with the platform.
Beyond the obvious appeal of a potential Jared Goff-versus-Josh Allen quarterback duel, the contest will carry additional significance as the first regular-season game at Buffalo’s new Highmark Stadium.
The Bills enter 2026 under new head coach Joe Brady following Sean McDermott’s departure, giving the matchup an added layer of intrigue against a Detroit side that has become one of the NFC’s most consistently explosive teams.
The league has gradually turned schedule release week into a multi-day media event, strategically unveiling selected marquee matchups across its broadcast partners before the full 272-game slate is officially announced on Thursday night. NFL Network, ESPN2, the ESPN App and NFL+ will carry comprehensive schedule release coverage beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
The staggered reveals also underline the NFL’s increasingly fragmented media strategy. FOX lands the league’s traditional Thanksgiving showcase, while Amazon continues to strengthen its Thursday Night Football package with a premium early-season matchup tied to a major stadium opening.
