The Philadelphia Eagles were made to wait for their reward after winning Super Bowl LIX in February, but would have been wowed by what they received.

Although the ‘ring ceremony’ was originally scheduled for 6th June, alleged ‘production issues’ with the Jason of Beverley Hills’designed creations meant that players and staff had to wait until the eve of training camp to see the latest in a long line of ever-more intricate and bejewelled Super Bowl mementoes.

Once the first rings had been handed out on the evening of 18th July, images began appearing on social media with immediate comparisons being made to preceding designs from the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The main panel shows both of the Eagles’ Lombardi Trophies, surrounded by the words ‘World Champions’ and featuring the team’s iconic logo. On the sides, each player’s name and number and the team wordmark, Super Bowl LIX logo and final score are prominent. The remaining space is filled with an engraved version of the player’s signature. On the inside, the Brazilian flag — denoting the Eagles’ first venue of the campaign — and the scores from each playoff game and the record postseason points total are commemorated, sandwiching the motto ‘Tough Detailed Together’ engrained in his roster by head coach Nick Sirianni.

While there is significance to the number of precious stones included in each ring — 18 in green to mark the Eagles’ record-tying win total across the entire season, 10 diamonds in the Super Bowl LIX logo to remind the wearer of the franchise-record win streak, 40 points of diamonds in the words ‘World Champions’ to reflect their winning total in the big game, one carat of diamonds in the head of each Lombardi to remember the league-leading defense and run game — the coup de grace remains hidden until activated by a hidden button, which initially appears to be a five-diamond marker of the number of players to score in the triumph over KC in New Orleans.

When pressed, the button reveals a pair of intricate wings that extend from the main body of the ring, revealing the phrase ‘You can’t be great without the greatness of others’. Of course, the wings too are encrusted with jewels, with 0.9 carats of diamonds representing the combined six sacks and three turnovers that contributed to Philly’s success in the season finale.

Whoever wins Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara this coming season is going to need to get creative…
