Euro star Krieg snapped up by Falcons

German kicker Lenny Krieg backed up his performance at the recent NFL Scouting Combine with an equally-impressive International Player Pathway pro day, earning him a three-year contract offer from the Atlanta Falcons.

Krieg was one of five specialists invited to the 2025 Combine in Indianapolis as part of the IPP programme — along with countryman Bastian Roppelt, Italy’s Jonata Loria and Irish duo Mark McNamee and Ross Bolger — but was the only kicker to go perfect on the day, hitting all 14 of his field goal attempts from between 35-55 yards. Already on the radar of NFL scouts following a stellar season kicking for the Stuttgart Surge in the 2024 European League of Football, Krieg then cemented his chance to make it in the USA by standing out amongst the 13 IPP candidates on show at the annual International Player Pathway pro day at the University of South Florida.

“Lenny has made outstanding progress in the ELF and has been a formative player for Surge and our league over the past two years,” commissioner Patrick Esume commented on the ELF website. “We are very happy for him that his hard work has paid off and that we were able to offer him a stage with the ELF to recommend himself for the jump to the NFL. He is a great role model for all talented players in Europe.”

The Falcons reportedly gave Krieg a signing bonus and a base salary guarantee as part of the three-year deal — despite having one of the NFL’s best kickers, Younghoe Koo, already on their roster.

Krieg scored a total of 99 points for the Surge during last year’s ELF regular season, topping the performance table for kickers by converting 68.75 percent of his field goal attempts and 88 percent of PATs. He is the second former Surge player to land an NFL contract after safety Marcel Dabo, who currently plays in Indianapolis.
