FINALLY! STEELERS, RODGERS CONFIRM WORST-KEPT SECRET
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Hall of Fame-bound quarterback Aaron Rodgers have finally confirmed that they will work together in 2025.
Like some drawn-out romcom courtship, the two sides have skirted around the issue of a consummation since the beginning of the year — or so it seems — with both dropping hints that they liked the other, without actually getting it together.
Until now.
With OTAs on the horizon, the Steelers have confirmed that they are signing what they hope will be an answer under center for the coming season — but that’s all it is for the time being, with Rodgers being offered a one-year contract, pending the obligatory physical.
The long-time Green Bay Packer will be starting his 21st NFL season when he lines up against, of all teams, the New York Jets in Week 1 of the regular season — a game not only significant for the two seasons Rodgers spent in the Big Apple prior to joining Pittsburgh, but also for the fact that Justin Fields, one half of the Steelers QB room in 2024, will be on the opposing sideline.
Rodgers also has a game of significance against his new team, having gone 24-of-39 for 304 yards and three touchdowns to claim MVP honours in Super Bowl XLV victory over the Steelers. He currently ranks in the Top 10 of every major passing category, fifth all-time with 503 passing touchdowns and seventh all-time with 62,952 passing yards. His 102.6 career passer rating is the highest ever by a qualified quarterback.
The physical will be a necessity for a player who spent all but four snaps of his first season in New York sidelined by an Achilles injury. He also has a history of believing in ‘alternative medicine’ following jungle retreats that began towards the end of his time in Green Bay.
