INTERNATIONAL SERIES SET FOR MUNICH IN 2026, 2028
The National Football League has announced that it will be taking its International Series games back to Munich in both 2026 and 2028, as part of a multi-year partnership with the City of Munich and FC Bayern Munich.
The games will be played at the Allianz Arena, which previously hosted NFL regular season games in 2022 and 2024, interspersed with forays to Frankfurt and, this season, to Berlin. The deal with the City of Munich includes provision to grow and develop flag football.
“I am delighted about the extension of our contract with the NFL, which once again demonstrates the importance and strength of Munich as a sports city,” said mayor Verena Dietl. “The previous games have not only won the hearts of fans, they have also strengthened our successful cooperation with the NFL. Together, we are committed to promoting football in Germany and spreading the palpable enthusiasm for the sport far beyond the stadiums. I am looking forward to the upcoming games in 2026 and 2028, which will deliver world-class sporting action and unforgettable excitement for the city and its fans.”
With regular season games already confirmed for Berlin’s Olympiastadion in both 2027 and 2029, it was always likely that an alternating venue would be confirmed for the intervening years in order to maintain that foothold the NFL has created in Germany in recent seasons.
“Germany is of huge strategic importance for the NFL in Europe, and our return to Munich signals the league’s long-term commitment to playing games in the market,” said NFL DACH general manager Alexander Steinforth. “As the first host of regular season games in Germany, Munich holds a very special place in the hearts of our fans and we look forward to continuing to create memorable experiences for them while building a year-round NFL presence across this city and country.”
Munich joins already confirmed 2026 International Series games in Melbourne — where the Los Angeles Rams will be the designated home team — Rio de Janeiro and London, where two games are scheduled for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the expected announcement that the Jacksonville Jaguars will also be staging their regular fixture at Wembley Stadium. As yet, there is no word on either of the 2025 newcomers — Dublin and Madrid — as the clamour to land an NFL game grows globally. China, Japan, France — which has been heavily rumoured to join the roster via the New Orleans Saints — and the Gulf region all remain potential venues for the league going forward.
