JEREMIAH: TITANS NEED TO BACK UP WARD PICK
Daniel Jeremiah is adamant that the Tennessee Titans need to remain in an offensive frame of mind when day two of the 2025 NFL Draft opens in Green Bay on Friday.
The NFL Network draft guru maintains that Tennessee, with second-year head coach Brian Callahan at the helm, should find the right players to slot in alongside their presumptive first overall selection, Miami QB Cam Ward, or risk hanging the rookie passer out to dry.
“Ward sure feels like a slam dunk — I would be pretty shocked if they didn’t go there with the first overall pick,” Jeremiah told journalists during his annual pre-draft media availability. “The intrigue is when they get to pick number 35. I think there’s a lot of different directions they could look to go there but, usually, when you invest in a young quarterback, there’s a commitment to try and really support him and help him on that side of the ball.
“You could look at the wide receiver position there at 35 — a guy like [Jayden] Higgins from Iowa State would be a fun player to drop into that mix to give Ward a nice weapon to play with. I know they have other areas they could go, potentially on the defensive side of the ball but, man, when you invest that first overall pick [in a QB], you want that pick to make you look smart, [and] it tends to lead you to staying on that side of the ball once you get to the next round.”
Asked who else might be available from the receiver class when the Titans, who pick third overall in round two behind Cleveland and the New York Giants, are back on the clock, Jeremiah admitted that the first name that came to mind was Missouri wideout Luther Burden III.
“I mentioned Higgins the last time this came up and, to me, I have Luther Burden just ahead of him. I think there’s a real chance he could be there at that point in time too. The production did dip [in 2024] due somewhat to the quarterback play that was a little bit up and down — the offense just wasn’t what it had been previously — but I didn’t see any decline in his skills.
“[Burden]’s outstanding. One of the best run-after-catch receivers in this draft, if not the best run-after-catch receivers in this draft. As a player, he reminded me a lot of Stefon Diggs coming out of Maryland. And Stefon Diggs was just so quick at just getting away from people, separating from people — and, then, with the ball in his hands, could make some things happen.
“I think that would make a lot of sense — it would be a value pick for [the Titans] there and somebody who, with Cam Ward, can grow together and get a chance of some easy completions and piling up yards after the catch. I think it would be an outstanding value find if he were to be there at that point.”
