JETS CB BOYD SHOT IN MANHATTAN
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd remains in critical, life-threatening condition following a shooting early Sunday in midtown Manhattan.
The 29-year-old was shot and wounded at around 2am on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, according to law enforcement sources. According to the New York Post, Boyd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, a major trauma centre, where he remains in extremely serious condition.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has launched an investigation into the shooting, although no arrests have yet been made, and no formal motive has been revealed.
Boyd signed with the Jets earlier this year, following stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He was placed on the injured reserve list in August after suffering a shoulder injury in preseason, and had not yet returned to game action at the time of the shooting.
The Jets organisation has not yet made a detailed public statement beyond confirming Boyd’s medical status and noting the incident is under investigation, but the shooting adds another layer of off-field concern to a franchise already navigating challenges on the field under new head coach Aaron Glenn this season. The Jets are already mourning the untimely passing of former player Nick Mangold, who lost his battle against kidney disease last month.
