JETS LAND ADAMS IN RAIDERS TRADE
Aaron Rodgers has been lambasted for his alleged insistence on former colleagues being brought into the New York Jets roster since joining Gang Green ahead of the 2023 NFL season, but his campaigning may just have paid off in the biggest fashion as the beleaguered franchise is on the verge of completing a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Rodgers’ erstwhile Packers teammate Davante Adams.
The All-Pro wide receiver recently requested his release from a Raiders team apparently going nowhere fast in 2024 and, while rumours of possible destinations swirled, always seemed destined to rejoin Rodgers in the Big Apple. The Raiders had previously acquired Adams from Green Bay in the hope of luring his quarterback of eight years to Sin City when his contract expired, but Rodgers opted for New York instead.
The cost of the deal is allegedly a conditional 2025 third-round pick, although this could elevate to become a second-round pick if Adams is either voted to the All-Pro first- or second-teams or the Jets appear in at least the AFC Championship Game. It is also being reported that New York will take on the rest of Adams’ not insignificant salary as a sweetener in the deal.
The revelation comes just a week after the Jets returned from an appearance in the first of this year’s three London Games and promptly fired head coach Robert Saleh. It also follows hot on the heels of a Monday Night Football loss to divisional rival Buffalo, which came in spite of Rodgers throwing a brace of touchdown passes.
Adams arrives in New York having missed the past three games with a lingering hamstring injury, while Rodgers shook of an ankle sprain that occurred during the game against Minnesota at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 5.
