LEAGUE SUSPENDS MOEHRIG FOR ‘NUT PUNCH’
It seems as if we are fully immersed in suspension season in the NFL, with Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig the latest player to be banned for a game.
Moehrig’s unexpected hiatus came after he was caught punching San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings in a very delicate place during Monday night’s game in the Bay Area, an action that violated the NFL’s sportsmanship rules.
Moehrig’s ban means he will miss the Panthers’ Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams, although he is allowed to appeal and have his case reviewed by one of the jointly-appointed NFL/NFLPA hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson. The season’s two other high-profile suspensions — Jalen Carter and Ja’Marr Chase — received differing appeal outcomes, but only because Carter’s ejection from the 2025 Kickoff Game came, somewhat ironically, before kickoff and his absence from the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over Dallas was deemed to have constituted a one-game absence.
For his part, Jennings may yet face punishment for his role in a postgame incident and its aftermath but, at the time of writing, has escaped censure and is believed to be looking at a fine rather than suspension given the provocation.
