LEGENDS ON STAGE AT 2025 DRAFT

Neil Dutton NFL

The NFL Draft is all about the future, with teams selecting players they hope will contribute to their fortunes in 2025 and for years to come. But, while the draft is the first opportunity for teams and fan bases to cast their eyes on the next generation of players, some already familiar faces are also set to appear.

The NFL announced on Thursday the legends and active players representing all 32 clubs currently scheduled to make selections in rounds two and three of this year’s NFL Draft in Green Bay, with the opening night seeing modern-day Packers heroes Mason Crosby, Ahman Green, James Jones, Clay Matthews and Jordy Nelson lending a helping hand to commissioner Roger Goodell as he, as has become customary, receives a chorus of boos to open the show.

The great state of Wisconsin will be well represented in the first NFL draft to take place in Green Bay since 1940, with 13 former Wisconsin Badgers on hand to make selections for teams on day two of the event. These include the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, Lee Evans (representing the Buffalo Bills), as well as four of the school’s top six all-time leading rushers — Jonathan Taylor (Indianapolis Colts), Montee Ball (Denver Broncos), Melvin Gordon (Los Angeles Chargers) and James White (New England Patriots).

Several presenters will be announcing the names of players who, in a few short weeks, will become their team-mates, with four currently-active players making selections for their squads. Detroit’s Terrion Arnold, Carolina’s Chuba Hubbard, Miami’s Alec Ingold and the aforementioned Taylor will help announce their clubs’ day two selections. A fifth, Ryan Ramczyk, will call the name for the Saints, but he won’t be joining them on the field in 2025, having recently announced his retirement from the NFL.

There will also be a contingent of former players in town to celebrate a quarter of a century since their own NFL journeys began, with seven members of the 2000 NFL Draft class joining the festivities: John Abraham (New York Jets), Shaun Alexander (Seattle Seahawks), Keith Bullock (Tennessee Titans), Dante Hall (Kansas City Chiefs), Julian Peterson (San Francisco 49ers), T.J. Slaughter (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Dez White (Chicago Bears).

When past and futures collide at the 2025 NFL Draft, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
