Make Sure You Catch This!
The team that brought you Quarterback in 2023 has unveiled its latest NFL-themed project, Receiver, which will follow the fortunes of five of the league’s best pass-catchers through last season.
The eight-episode series is set to premiere this summer and serves as a continuation of Netflix’s relationship with the NFL that began with the ultra-successful Quarterback, which hit the Netflix Global Top 10 for three weeks last year. Produced by NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions — with Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes amongst the executive producers — Receiver will chart the ups and downs of Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers), Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions) through the 2023 campaign.
“The natural progression is from a pass to a catch, so we’re excited to dive into the receiver world after the success of our Quarterback series,” Gabe Spitzer, vice-president of non-fiction sports at Netflix, explained. “NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions have delivered again in finding unique and dynamic athletes who will further highlight the drama of this sport on and off the field.”
The new series is the latest output from Manning’s burgeoning Omaha media empire, which the Hall-of-Fame QB started upon his retirement from the NFL. Mahomes, meanwhile, brought his own 2PM brand onboard for Quarterback, and remains a key part of the team developing Receiver.
“We are excited to be working again with Netflix and NFL Films to give fans unprecedented access to what it’s like to play receiver at the highest level,” Manning said. “As we did with Quarterback, we look forward to telling the stories of five incredible receivers, each with their unique personality, skillset and motivation for what drives them to be the best.”
