The NFL formally confirmed two of the league’s worst-kept marquee-event secrets on Tuesday, awarding Super Bowl LXIV in 2030 to Nashville and the 2028 NFL Draft to Minneapolis after months of mounting expectation surrounding both bids.

Both selections were approved during the NFL Spring League Meeting in Orlando, with owners signing off on Nashville’s long-anticipated Super Bowl bid centred around the Tennessee Titans’ new Nissan Stadium, while Minnesota’s heavily favoured proposal for the 2028 NFL Draft also received official confirmation.

The decisions continue the NFL’s strategy of turning its biggest tentpole events into travelling showcases for emerging destination markets and recently developed stadium infrastructure, while rewarding cities that have already demonstrated the capacity to host large-scale league spectacles.

Nashville, in particular, had long been viewed as inevitable following the extraordinary success of the 2019 NFL Draft, while Minneapolis had emerged as a leading contender for the 2028 Draft after hosting Super Bowl LII in 2018 and consistently drawing praise for its major-event logistics around U.S. Bank Stadium.

The bigger headline, however, came with confirmation that Nashville will stage its first Super Bowl when Super Bowl LXIV arrives in Tennessee in February 2030.

The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history,” commissioner Roger Goodell claimed, “and Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. The vision of Amy Adams Strunk and the Tennessee Titans helped make this moment possible. With great partners at the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp and Tennessee Titans, we can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030.”

The award represents another landmark moment in Nashville’s rapid emergence as one of the NFL’s premier event cities. When the city hosted the 2019 NFL Draft, crowds flooded downtown Nashville in scenes that surprised even league officials, with more than 600,000 fans attending across the weekend — then an all-time Draft attendance record — while generating a reported $224m economic impact.

That event significantly altered the NFL’s perception of Nashville’s long-term viability as a Super Bowl destination, particularly once plans accelerated for the Titans’ new enclosed Nissan Stadium project.

We are thrilled that the new Nissan Stadium will host Nashville’s first Super Bowl in 2030,” team owner Strunk said. “This is an exciting moment for our city and our entire state. We cannot wait for our community to experience an event of this magnitude and for the world to see the energy, hospitality, and culture that make our city so special on a global stage. Thank you to Commissioner Goodell, my fellow owners, and the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp for their partnership throughout this process. We look forward to bringing an unforgettable Super Bowl experience to Nashville together.”

The NFL increasingly views Super Bowl week as a sprawling entertainment and cultural platform rather than simply a championship game, and Nashville’s music-industry identity appears central to the league’s plans.

Hosting the Super Bowl is a defining moment for Nashville and Tennessee and reflects years of work to build Music City into a globally recognized destination for music, entertainment, and live events,” said president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, Deana Ivey. “This event is an incredible opportunity to showcase the dynamic and creative character of Nashville to a global audience and to deliver a Super Bowl experience that is distinctly Music City, where music, sports, culture and hospitality come together in a way few cities can match.

We are grateful to the NFL for the confidence they have placed in our community. Nashville has earned a reputation for hosting major events at the highest level, and we are ready to welcome the world.”

Alongside the game itself, Super Bowl LXIV will also include the NFL Honours ceremony, Super Bowl Experience, Opening Night and various league community initiatives across the city.

The league simultaneously confirmed that Minneapolis will host the 2028 NFL Draft, bringing another major NFL showcase back to Minnesota a decade after U.S. Bank Stadium hosted Super Bowl LII.

The event will be staged in downtown Minneapolis with activities centred around U.S. Bank Stadium in partnership with the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Sports and Events.

Minnesota knows how to show up for big moments, and we’ve experienced it first-hand,” Goodell commented. “Working with the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Sports and Events, we look forward to bringing the 2028 NFL Draft to this great community, driving positive economic impact throughout the region, and hosting an incredible event for fans and the next generation of the NFL.”

The NFL Draft has evolved into one of the league’s biggest annual attractions since leaving New York City in 2015, with host cities increasingly turning the event into multi-day civic festivals. This year’s Draft in Pittsburgh reportedly drew a record 805,000 fans over three days, underscoring the league’s growing confidence in rotating the event through large-scale downtown entertainment districts.

For three days, Minnesota will become the centre of the football world,” claim team owner Mark Wilf. “The 2028 NFL Draft will give us an opportunity to showcase not just U.S. Bank Stadium, but the energy, hospitality and pride that define Minneapolis-St. Paul and the entire state and region. We have no doubt the community will deliver a world-class event that is unique to Minnesota.”

Wendy Williams Blackshaw, president and CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events (MNSE) added that being awarded the Draft was ‘an extraordinary moment for Minnesota and a testament to what can happen when organisations, partners and community leaders come together behind a shared vision’.

The NFL Draft is one of the biggest and most impactful events in sports, and we are incredibly honoured the NFL has entrusted Minnesota with this opportunity,” she continued. “Alongside the Minnesota Vikings, U.S. Bank Stadium and our many corporate, civic and hospitality partners, we look forward to creating an unforgettable experience for fans while generating meaningful economic impact and showcasing the very best of our region to a global audience.”

The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C., while Los Angeles is scheduled to host Super Bowl LXI in 2027, with Atlanta and Las Vegas following on before Nashville takes its turn in 2030.
