NETFLIX CONFIRMS QUARTERBACK SEASON THREE

Netflix’s growing grip on football storytelling will continue this summer after the streaming giant confirmed a third season of Quarterback, with four very different careers set to headline the latest behind-the-scenes access project from their partnership with NFL Films and Omaha Productions.

Season three will premiere globally on July 14th and follow Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and Joe Flacco across the 2025 NFL season. The series again promises ‘exclusive, unprecedented access’ to the position many inside the league still regard as the most demanding in professional sports. The latest cast, however, offers perhaps the broadest spread yet of circumstances and personalities.

Daniels enters the series as one of the NFL’s most marketable young stars after an explosive start to his career with the Washington Commanders. Netflix described the former LSU standout as a player looking to ‘build on his dual-threat potential and cement himself as the face of the franchise’ as cameras followed his second professional season.

Mayfield’s inclusion also gives the show one of the league’s most naturally combustible personalities. The former #1 overall pick revived his career in Tampa Bay after stops in Cleveland, Carolina and Los Angeles, and the series is expected to lean heavily into both his leadership style and emotional volatility as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attempted to remain contenders in the NFC South. Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht said fans would get an unfiltered look at the quarterback.

I think people will see the real Baker,” Licht said. “He’s somebody that wears his emotion on his sleeve and he doesn’t hide anything.”

Ward, meanwhile, gives the series its developmental arc. The former Miami quarterback arrived in the NFL as the #1 overall pick of the Tennessee Titans and one of the most scrutinised rookies in football. Netflix described him as ‘one of the league’s most intriguing young quarterbacks, fighting to establish himself’ after a remarkable college career.

But it may be Flacco’s storyline that ultimately becomes the centrepiece.

The former Super Bowl MVP began the year with the Cleveland Browns before being traded midseason to the Cincinnati Bengals in one of the season’s more unexpected moves. Netflix called the move ‘shocking’, while its accompanying promotional material noted that Flacco became the first player to be traded during production of the series. The Bengals later confirmed Flacco would feature prominently after throwing 13 touchdown passes in six starts following his arrival in Cincinnati.

The success of Quarterback has become increasingly important within the NFL’s broader media strategy as the league continues pushing deeper into streaming platforms and long-form documentary programming. The original 2023 season — built around Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota — was effectively the NFL’s answer to Formula One’s hugely influential Drive to Survive model, offering unusually intimate gameday audio and behind-the-scenes footage.

Its success helped launch a wider football docuseries ecosystem involving Netflix, NFL Films and Omaha Productions, including Receiver and other sports-focused projects tied to former quarterback Peyton Manning’s rapidly expanding media company.

The show is executive produced by Manning and Jamie Horowitz for Omaha Productions, alongside Ross Ketover, Keith Cossrow, Ken Rodgers and Jessica Boddy for NFL Films. Mahomes also remains attached through 2PM Productions.
