NEW RECRUIT NOT EXPECTING ‘SLIM PICKENS’ IN DALLAS
George Pickens is a Dallas Cowboy and already insists that great things could be on the horizon for the moribund franchise as he teams up with fellow wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
The pair have history having worked out together in offseasons past, and Pickens — who arrived from Pittsburgh post-Draft after the Cowboys failed to land a receiver with any of their ten selections — is looking forward to teaming up on a more formal basis.
“It excites me a lot,” the 24-year-old told the Cowboys’ official website. “In the game of football, we can work off of each other — CeeDee is a super dynamic receiver, super dynamic person, player [and] I just feel like, schematically, you won’t be able to double everybody, so that’ll be a great thing for me and him.”
Pickens also insists that he is not worried about being pigeon-holed as WR2 to Lamb’s role as senior receiver, believing that the pair can play as equals.
“You guys [are] making a 1A and 1B and all this, [but] honestly that’s the first time I’ve heard of any of that stuff,” he said. “I feel like two receivers are kind of normal. When I used to watch football, there was always a good receiver and then there was another good receiver on the side of him. I just feel like we’re going to work off each other very well.”
The Cowboys’ decision to send a third-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft to Pittsburgh, as well as swapping later round picks the following season, was not without questions, as Pickens arrives with a reputation for being difficult to deal with. Again, however, the player was at pains to play down those suggestions.
“I’m gonna take it one day at a time,” Pickens said. “Everybody in the world is working on growing and bettering themselves. I feel like growth is me moving in a great direction and coming to the Cowboys.
“Working every day, that’s how you build a winning culture in any sport, [and] I’m just here to work. Whatever role finds me best is where I’m going to find myself. I feel great. I like the mojo here. I like the swag. [We’ve] got a great thing going, for sure.”
