NFL Weekend Preview: Week 11
Week 10 was one of the worst weeks of the 2024 season in terms of offensive output. Teams averaged 1.86 points per drive and threw interceptions at a 2.9% rate, both “good” for the second-worst weeks of the season. But while Week 11 can’t guarantee more explosive play on offense, it promises to be a fascinating week with several key rivalries renewed, with divisional places and playoff progress up for grabs. Where better to start the week than Philadelphia with a game between two of the best teams in the NFC?
The NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles welcome the Washington Commanders to Lincoln Financial Field for a clash between two NFC front runners. The Eagles have a 7-2 record and have won five games in a row, while the Commanders own second place in the division with their 7-3 record. A win for the Commanders would give them their second eight-win season in the last eight years. Jayden Daniels leads all rookie quarterbacks with 2,147 passing yards and 464 rushing yards. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin has caught five or more passes in nine of his career games against the Eagles. Tight end Zach Ertz is facing the team he spent the first nine seasons of his career with and ranks second in Eagles history with 579 receptions. He needs four catches to get to 750 career grabs.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts recorded a passing and a rushing score while posting a 115.0 rating in the Eagles’ 34-6 win over the Cowboys last week. Hurts is the first quarterback in NFL history to achieve this feat in four consecutive games while also becoming the first passer in league history to score at least ten rushing touchdowns in four straight seasons. Saquon Barkley is nine yards away from 1,000 rushing yards for the season and will be the third different Eagles back to manage 1,000 rushing yards in the last three seasons. A.J. Brown had 17 receptions for 305 yards and four touchdowns in two games against the Commanders in 2023. His fellow wide receiver DeVonta Smith has caught six or more balls in his last four games against the Commanders.
Heinz Field plays host to a clash between two bitter AFC North rivals, with one an irresistible offensive force and the other an immovable defensive object. The 7-2 Pittsburgh Steelers lead the division while the Baltimore Ravens are snapping at their heels with a 7-3 record. The home side has won four games in a row, while the Ravens are looking for a third straight victory. The Steelers have enjoyed the upper hand in this series in recent years with three straight wins and a 32-24 advantage in the all-time standings. The Ravens lead the NFL with 440.2 yards per game and quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of only three players ever with 24 or more touchdown passes and two or fewer interceptions in the first nine games of a season. Running back Derrick Henry leads the NFL in both rushing yards (1,120) and rushing touchdowns (12) and has a rushing touchdown in four of his five road games in 2024.
The Steelers have allowed 302.7 yards per game in 2024 and rank second with just 16.2 points allowed. T.J. Watt has 6.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss in 2024, and Watt has racked up at least half a sack in each of his last ten games against the Ravens. Linebacker Patrick Queen faces his old team in Week 11 having racked up 453 tackles, 15 pass breakups, 13.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles for the Ravens between 2020-23. He also managed four interceptions. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson had at least one touchdown pass in his last 22 games, the longest active streak in the NFL. He averages 240.7 passing yards per game in three career outings against the Ravens. His favourite target has been George Pickens who leads the Steelers with 40 receptions and 639 yards. He took 130 yards and a touchdown from the Ravens the last time the Ravens came to Pittsburgh.
Two of the best quarterbacks on the planet will come together in Western New York on Sunday, as the 8-2 Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen welcome Patrick Mahomes and his 9-0 Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are the fifth reigning Super Bowl champions to start a season 9-0 and are looking to start a season 10-0 for the first time in franchise history. The Chiefs have won their last 15 games in the regular and post-season. One of those wins was against the Bills in the 2023 AFC Division round, although the Bills beat the Chiefs 20-17 in Week 14 of the regular season. Patrick Mahomes averages 289.1 passing yards in seven career starts against the Bills, with 15 touchdowns and a 101.3 rating. Travis Kelce logged the 95th touchdown grab of his illustrious career in Week 10, rising to fourth on the all-time list among tight ends.
The Bills’ Week 10 victory over the Colts was Allen’s 71st regular season win, the fourth-most wins for a quarterback in his first eight seasons in NFL history. Allen averages 249.8 passing yards in four career starts against the Chiefs, going 3-1 in that span. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir leads the Bills with 48 receptions and 529 receiving yards in 2024 and has 50+ receiving yards in his last four games. Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau has 5.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss this season and has at least 0.5 sacks in two of his three regular-season games against the Chiefs.
One of the oldest rivalries in NFL history is renewed in Week 11, with the 6-3 Green Bay Packers traveling to the Windy City to take on the 4-5 Chicago Bears. The Bears are the only NFC North side with a record beneath 0.500 and have lost three games in a row. The Packers are third in the division behind the Lions and the Vikings. Jordan Love has 200+ passing yards in eight of his last nine road games and has thrown at least two touchdown passes in four of his previous five games away from Lambeau. The Bears looked abject on offense in losing to the Patriots a week ago. They fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron this week, the first time they have ever dismissed a play-caller during the season in franchise history. It would have been little comfort to Keenan Allen that he registered his 930th career reception in the game, giving him the most receptions for any player in NFL history in their first 150 career games. His fellow wide receiver D.J. Moore needs ten receptions for 50 in 2024, which would be his seventh straight season with at least 50 grabs.
The cream of the NFC crop, the 8-1 Detroit Lions, welcome the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars to Ford Field this week. The visitors are 2-8 and pressure continues to mount on embattled head coach Doug Pederson after another abject offensive performance in a 12-7 loss in Week 10. The Jaguars would own the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft if the 2024 season ended today – spoiler alert, it won’t. Mac Jones looks set to continue at quarterback with Trevor Lawrence’s shoulder issue still not resolved. Jones completed 14 of his 22 pass attempts against the Vikings a week ago, but could only muster 111 yards. The Lions beat the Texans in Week 10 despite five interceptions from Jared Goff, making him the 20th player in NFL history to win a game in which he tossed five picks. The Lions own the second-longest winning streak in the NFL having won their last seven games. Goff has two touchdown passes in six of his last seven starts. Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is 71 yards from back-to-back 1,000 scrimmage-yard seasons and has scored nine touchdowns in his last nine home games. Amon-Ra St. Brown has a touchdown reception in his last seven games and is looking to become the first player with eight in a row with a score since Davante Adams in 2020.
The 2-7 Las Vegas Raiders take a five-game losing streak to South Beach in Week 11 for a clash with the 3-6 Miami Dolphins. A loss for the Raiders would give them their seventh season with at least eight losses in their last eight campaigns. They are on course to finish bottom of the AFC West for the first time since 2018. Rookie tight end Brock Bowers is second among all rookies with 57 grabs and third with 580 receiving yards. Maxx Crosby needs one tackle for loss to give him 100 in the first six seasons of his career. He has 11 this season. Tua Tagovalioa has completed 70% of his passes in each of the last three games and racked up 325 yards and two scores the last time he played the Raiders. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill has at least 75 receiving yards in his last five games against the Raiders and has scored a touchdown in three of the last four.
The 4-5 Los Angeles Rams travel east to take on the 3-7 New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Rams quarterback Matt Stafford has completed 25 or more passes in his last three games, and his next touchdown pass will see him pass Eli Manning – a player who always enjoyed taking on the Patriots – on the all-time list with 367. Cooper Kupp has caught ten balls and racked up more than 100 receiving yards in two of his last three road games. The Patriots have won two of their last three games but have scored less than 20 points in seven of their ten games this season, including two of their three victories. Quarterback Drake Maye has racked up at least 45 rushing yards in two of his last three games. Rhamondre Stevenson has 614 yards from scrimmage in 2024, and with 86 yards against the Rams, he would become the first player in Patriots franchise history to rack up 700 yards from scrimmage in each of his first four seasons with the team.
In a game that only matters to the players and fans of the teams taking part, the 2-7 Cleveland Browns head to the Big Easy to take on the 3-7 New Orleans Saints. Jameis Winston, confirmed as the Browns starter after their bye week, returns to face his old team having started ten games for the Saints between 2021-22. Winston racked up 2,028 passing yards and tossed 18 touchdowns in New Orleans. Wide receiver Cedric Tillman is looking for a fourth game in a row with at least 75 receiving yards, while a touchdown grab would make it three on the spin with a trip to the endzone. The Saints won their first game under interim coach Darren Rizzi in Week 10, with massive thanks to Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo who missed three field goals. Both teams would be picking in the top ten of the 2025 NFL Draft if the season ended before Week 11, with the Browns owning the fourth overall pick and the Saints the ninth. The Saints’ win over the Falcons saw running back Alvin Kamara become the team’s all-time leading rusher, with Kamara’s 6,544 yards on the ground surpassing Mark Ingram’s 6,500. Saints quarterback Derek Carr returned to the lineup against the Falcons and averages 285.2 passing yards per game in his five starts against the Browns, going 4-1 in those games.
The 4-6 Indianapolis Colts and the 3-7 New York Jets faceoff in the Joe Flacco Bowl at MetLife Stadium in Week 11. Flacco started nine games for the Jets between 2020-2022, passing for 2,253 yards and 14 touchdowns on his way to a 1-8 record. The Colts have lost their last three games, two of which Flacco started, and are two games behind the Texans in the AFC North. Running back Jonathan Taylor has racked up at least 100 yards from scrimmage in five of his last six games and has a rushing touchdown in his last two games against the Jets. He is currently sitting on 49 rushing touchdowns for his career. The Jets are circling the drain in the AFC and have lost six of their last seven games. They are yet to score more than 24 points in a game in 2024. Aaron Rodgers can help them reach that mark if he keeps up his recent form against the Colts, throwing three touchdown passes in each of his last three games against them. Breece Hall ranks second among all running backs with 358 receiving yards in 2024 and second among all AFC backs with 912 yards from scrimmage.
The 7-2 Minnesota Vikings will look to keep the pressure on the Detroit Lions in the NFC North as they travel to Music City to take on the 2-7 Tennessee Titans. The Vikings are looking for a third straight win and a better offensive performance than they managed in a 12-7 win over the Jaguars in Week 10. Sam Darnold has been shaky of late after a mostly mistake-free start to his Vikings career and has 17 touchdown passes and ten interceptions this season. Aaron Jones has five games with 100+ yards from scrimmage in 2024 and is 89 yards away from his fifth season with 1,000+ yards from scrimmage. Justin Jefferson has caught five or more balls in seven straight games and needs just 55 receiving yards for the most by a player in their first five NFL seasons all-time. Will Levis returned to the Titans lineup in Week 10 and passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, marking the third game of his career with multiple touchdown passes and no interceptions. Running back Tony Pollard had 666 rushing yards in his first season in Nashville and had a career-high 189 yards from scrimmage the last time he played the Vikings, back in 2022 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
The 5-5 Denver Broncos have lost their last two games, admittedly to the Baltimore Ravens and heartbreakingly to the Kansas City Chiefs, and find themselves in third place in the AFC West. They’ll look to snap the skid against the 6-4 Atlanta Falcons who lead the NFC South even after an error-strewn loss to the Saints in Week 10. Kirk Cousins has at least 200 passing yards in nine straight games and at least 225 in his last five road games. Running back Bijan Robinson is one of three NFC running backs with 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2024 and has a touchdown and 100 yards from scrimmage in four of his last five games. Darnell Mooney (684 yards) and Drake London (649) are the only receiving pair in the NFL to both have 600 receiving yards in 2024. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix leads all rookie passers with four games with at least 200 passing yards and two passing scores, while also ranking second with 1,968 passing yards and fourth with 290 rushing yards. Courtland Sutton has 42 catches for 569 yards in 2024 and needs eight grabs for a fourth 50-catch season in a row. Sutton has three straight games with at least six catches and 70 receiving yards.
The 4-5 Seattle Seahawks are coming off a Week 10 bye and travel to face the 5-4 San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks lost two games in a row before their break while the 49ers are looking for a third straight win. Both of these teams would miss the playoffs if the season ended today, although the 49ers are only a game behind the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals. Geno Smith leads the league with 284.4 passing yards per game and racked up 312 yards through the air in the last meeting between these two sides. Kenneth Walker has three 100-yard rushing games in 2024 and has at least 50 yards from scrimmage in his last three games against the 49ers. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is coming off a career day in Week 9 with 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Brock Purdy is second behind Geno Smith with 272.7 passing yards per game in 2024 and has eight touchdown passes in four career starts against the Seahawks. Running back Christian McCaffrey made his 2024 season debut in Week 10 and racked up 107 yards from scrimmage against the Buccaneers. McCaffrey averages 168.4 yards from scrimmage in five games against the Seahawks in his career and averages 107.4 in home games since joining the 49ers. Tight end George Kittle has seven touchdown catches in his last five games against the Seahawks and leads all NFL tight ends with seven scores in 2024.
The 4-6 Cincinnati Bengals travel West for their clash with the 6-3 Los Angeles Chargers. The Bengals come into the game after falling short in an epic duel with the Ravens last Thursday night, while the Chargers are looking for a fourth straight win as they look to solidify their push for a playoff berth behind the Chiefs in the AFC West. Joe Burrow has two or more touchdown passes in four of his five road games in 2024 and averages 257.7 passing yards in three career games on Sunday Night Football. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase leads the NFL with 66 receptions, 981 receiving yards, and 10 touchdown grabs. He went 11-264-3 in Week 10. The Chargers rank first in the scoring defense in 2024 and allow a mere 13.1 points per game. Justin Herbert has gone seven games since his last interception and has just one all year. Herbert averages 303.3 passing yards in seven games on Sunday Night Football with 14 passing scores. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston has a touchdown catch in his last two games and at least 40 receiving yards and a score in his last two games against AFC North opponents.
The 6-4 Houston Texans face the 3-6 Dallas Cowboys in an uninspiring Monday Night Football clash for bragging rights in the Lone Star state. Neither side comes into the game feeling particularly good about themselves, with the Texans losing their last two games and the Cowboys their last four. The Texans still lead the AFC South, thanks to the general ineptitude of their rivals more than their strong play of late. C.J. Stroud is making his MNF debut. Running back Joe Mixon is one of four players in 2024 with 600+ rushing yards and seven rushing scores and has a touchdown in six of his last seven prime-time games. Tight end Dalton Schultz returns to AT&T Stadium after compiling 211 catches, 2,122 yards, and 17 touchdowns as a member of the Dallas Cowboys between 2018-22. The Cowboys finished 12-5 in each of the last three seasons, a record that is beyond them now and are in danger of finishing outside the top two teams in the NFC East for only the second time in the last nine years. Quarterback Cooper Rush was historically bad against the Eagles last week, but he owns a 2-1 record in home starts in his career. CeeDee Lamb has been a prime-time performer for the Cowboys, with 25 catches for 306 yards in three prime-time games in 2024. Micah Parsons has 17 tackles for loss in 17 prime-time games in his career and is coming off the 12th game in his Cowboys career with at least two sacks.
