DRAFT TO BE WEEK-LONG COMMUNITY SHOWCASE
The NFL is turning the 2026 Draft into a full-scale civic showcase, rolling out a week-long programme of community events, youth initiatives and flag football activations across Pittsburgh designed to extend the impact far beyond the stage.
Headlined by efforts to ‘uplift the greater Pittsburgh area’, the league’s plans stretch from environmental projects in the West End to social justice initiatives tackling homelessness through its Inspire Change platform. Draft week will also see the NFL double down on grassroots engagement, with youth-focused programmes including PLAY 60 and Character Playbook combining for a new school-based rollout aimed at promoting physical and emotional wellbeing.
Flag football sits at the centre of the week’s activity. Top draft prospects will take part in a community clinic alongside Special Olympics athletes, while elite girls high school players will showcase their talent in front of college coaches as the sport’s rapid growth continues. A USA Wheelchair Football League Veteran All-Star Game further broadens the footprint, underscoring the NFL’s increasing emphasis on inclusivity across formats.
Beyond the field, the league is leaning into tangible local impact. Its Draft Source programme will channel business to Pittsburgh-based suppliers, while initiatives ranging from food distribution to homebuilding projects aim to ensure the economic and social benefits of the event are felt across the city.
Fans will also play a direct role, with community leaders, non-profit representatives and Make-A-Wish participants set to announce selections on stage — a symbolic extension of a Draft week increasingly positioned as much about connection as it is about player acquisition.
