RAGNOW RETURNS FROM RETIREMENT

The Detroit Lions’ banged-up offensive line is poised to gain reinforcement for the regular season run-in — from an unexpected source.

Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow confirmed that he would be coming out of retirement to bolster the Lions’ depleted ranks, with the team officially elevating him from the reserve/retired list on the eve of their Thanksgiving game with NFC North rival Green Bay. Ragnow retired unexpectedly back in June, two months after the NFL Draft, and the Lions are noticeably weaker on the O-line, both in terms of points scored and sacks allowed.

Although the veteran won’t be able to play in the holiday game as he remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, he announced his return via his foundation’s social media channels, contradicting head coach Dan Campbell’s assertion that he was enjoying retirement.

“Frank Ragnow isn’t done yet,” the Rags Remembered Foundation revealed. “After stepping away from the game, he’s made the decision to return to the field. His work through the foundation will continue, his impact will continue, and now his journey on the field continues as well.”

Although Graham Glasgow returned to center to cover the loss of Ragnow this season, he has recently been moved to the IR, where he joined Christian Mahogany, who had stepped in at guard alongside rookie Tate Ratledge.

Ragnow, who cited the wear and tear his body had taken through his career as the main reason for stepping away, could return as early as next Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
