RAVENS LAND HENDRICKSON AFTER CROSBY U-TURN

The Baltimore Ravens have executed a dramatic change of course in their pursuit of pass rush help for the 2026 NFL season, pivoting away from Maxx Crosby and instead completing a deal for Trey Hendrickson.

Baltimore had initially moved aggressively to acquire Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, agreeing a blockbuster trade that sent multiple first round picks in exchange for the four-time Pro Bowler. However, the deal unravelled almost as quickly as it had been completed, with the Ravens citing a ‘failed physical’ while no doubt reassessing the long-term financial implications of absorbing Crosby’s contract alongside the substantial draft capital already committed.

Deciding to execute a sharp U-turn,, Baltimore instead shifted its focus to Hendrickson, snapping up the Cincinnati Bengals veteran across the AFC North and agreeing a four-year, $112m contract to secure the 31-year-old as a cornerstone of their defensive front.

Hendrickson, who had gone unclaimed through two days of free agency, arrives having established himself as one of the NFL’s most consistent sack producers during his time in Cincinnati. Since joining the Bengals in 2021, he has recorded multiple double-digit sack seasons and earned Pro Bowl recognition while anchoring one of the AFC’s most disruptive pass-rush units.

For Baltimore at least, the move represents a calculated pivot rather than a retreat. For others around the league, not least Las Vegas, it leaves a bitter taste that may make teams think twice about entering into negotiations with the Ravens in future. Intriguingly, both Hendrickson and Crosby will enter the 2026 campaign off the back of surgeries.
