Rooney Award nominees out as Pro Bowl vote opens
Thirty-two players have been nominated for the eleventh annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, the winner of which will be determined in the build-up to this year’s NFL Pro Bowl.
Created in 2014, the award honours the late Art Rooney Sr., founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers and now resident in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Each NFL team nominates a player for the award — which recognises on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition — before a panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community — Warrick Dunn, 2014 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award recipient Larry Fitzgerald, Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Curtis Martin and Leonard Wheeler — select eight finalists (four from each conference), who will be listed on the Pro Bowl ballot under the NFL Sportsmanship Award category when players vote in December.
“Sportsmanship is at the very the core of the game, the foundation of our values that are shared across all levels of the sport,” said Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice-president of football operations. “These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees demonstrate to the world how the game is played with respect and integrity at the highest level of competition.”

Previous recipients of the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award have included Bobby Wagner (Seahawks), Calais Campbell (Ravens), Matthew Slater (Patriots), Teddy Bridgewater (Panthers), Adrian Peterson (Washington), Drew Brees (Saints), Luke Kuechly (Panthers), Frank Gore (Colts), Charles Woodson (Raiders) and Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals).
Voting for the participants in the 2025 Pro Bowl Games is now open and, once again, fans have the opportunity to vote for their favourite players to compete in a multi-day AFC versus NFC competition. The event will take place in the week leading up to Sunday, February 2nd, with 88 of the league’s biggest stars going head-to-head in various skills competitions before the Games culminate with a flag football game between the two conferences, with Eli and Peyton Manning again acting as head coaches. Fans can vote as often as they want to help determine the 88-man roster between now and Monday, December 23rd, across a variety of platforms, including the official Pro Bowl website (ProBowl.com/Vote), via individual team sites and, during the final two weeks of voting, on social media, by ‘tweeting’ the first and last name of the player, tagging the player’s official Twitter handle or creating a hashtag including the player’s first and last name. All three of these methods must include the hashtag: #ProBowlVote. During the final two days of voting (December 22nd – 23rd), social votes will count as double. Selections will then be determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches, with each group’s vote counting for one-third of player totals.
