The reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will become the first defending title-holder ever to feature on HBO’s acclaimed Hard Knocks training camp series when the show returns this summer.

HBO and NFL Films confirmed on Tuesday that Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Seattle Seahawks will premiere on August 11th, airing weekly on Tuesdays through to a September 8th finale.

The five-part series marks a significant milestone for the long-running franchise. Since launching in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens, Hard Knocks has never previously followed the reigning Super Bowl champions into camp, making Seattle’s appearance a notable break from tradition. It will also be the Seahawks’ first time as the focus of the 19-time Sports Emmy-winning series.

Based at the club’s training facility in Renton, Washington, the all-access documentary is set to provide behind-the-scenes coverage of head coach Mike Macdonald and a roster headlined by quarterback Sam Darnold, 2025 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba and defensive standouts Devon Witherspoon and Byron Murphy II.

The announcement also gave fans an early look ahead, with the New England Patriots already confirmed as the featured team for the 2027 edition of the summer training camp series. Fresh off their appearance in Super Bowl LX, the Patriots are set to headline next year’s run in what will be another major draw for the franchise.

Narration duties once again fall to Liev Schreiber, whose voice has become synonymous with the series’ cinematic style and access-driven storytelling, which offers a rare chance for fans to step inside the day-to-day reality of an NFL team, from roster battles and rookie storylines to, in this case, the pressures of following a title-winning campaign.

The NFL also took the opportunity to underline the commercial power of its broadcast product, noting that league programming accounted for 86 of the top 100 most-watched television shows in 2025. As the league continues to expand its documentary and streaming footprint, the Seahawks’ selection for Hard Knocks comes amid a wider boom in premium football programming. Netflix’s Quarterback series is widely expected to return for a third season in 2026 following the success of its first two instalments, while the streaming giant is also reportedly seeking an expanded package of live NFL rights beyond its Christmas Day broadcasts amid a broader reshaping of the NFL’s media landscape. As streaming giants continue to push for a larger slice of the league’s premium inventory. Netflix, which currently holds rights to two Christmas Day games, is reportedly seeking to double that package to four as part of the NFL’s ongoing renegotiation of its media deals.

According to reports in The Wall Street Journal, the streamer is particularly interested in securing rights to the league’s planned Thanksgiving Eve fixture as well as an international game, as the NFL looks to create new mini-packages of four to five games for digital partners. YouTube and Amazon are also understood to be in the frame for expanded packages beyond their existing commitments, with the league aiming to have revised agreements in place before the 2026 season begins. Industry consensus has increasingly pointed toward separate packages being carved out for Netflix, Amazon and YouTube as the NFL continues to grow its international footprint and maximise global reach.
