TENNESSEE TO JOIN SUPER BOWL ROTA?
Nashville could be next in line to join the list of potential Super Bowl venues, according to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The suggestion was made following a ceremonial ‘topping out’ at the new Nissan Stadium being built a stone’s throw away from Tennessee Titans’ existing home. Goodell referred to the sterling job the city had made of staging the 2019 NFL Draft when addressing the media and, although the new stadium isn’t due for completion until the 2027 season, hinted that it has all the hallmarks of a stage for the league’s biggest weekend.
“[The Titans are] an important franchise, and a wonderful franchise,” the commissioner began. “I know the work they’ve done here from the moment you had the draft — and what you did to change the trajectory of the draft. You actually took the event and made it yours, but you did it in a way that was incredibly impactful to the future of the NFL — and the Titans.
“I think all of us, at that moment, had a wake-up call and [thought], ‘This is a Super Bowl-ready city, and the only thing that is missing is the stage’. Now, you are building a great stage. We have a process, but I have every expectation you are going to see that type of thing in the future.”
Goodell and Titans’ controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk both sign the final beam to be hoisted into place inside the new stadium, marking another milestone on the way towards completing what will eventually be a covered venue with the potential to expand beyond football into a wider entertainment hub.
“Standing here today, in the shadow of this beautiful building coming to life behind me, it just truly takes your breath away,” Strunk commented. “This new stadium means so much to our team, and to this beautiful city we call home. It is more than just a building, it is a promise to our fans, it is a gathering place for our community, and it is a big part of the future of Nashville.”
