UK FANS TO BENEFIT FROM ‘LANDMARK’ TV DEALS

A great man once said that deadlines spur action, and that is usually the case when it comes to contract extensions and new signings. But with the NFL regular season just days away, and many wondering just how they would get their weekly fix of action, UK viewers have seen their patience rewarded, as the NFL has agreed landmark multi-year broadcast partnerships with 5 and Sky Sports, delivering more live games than ever before, across both free-to-air and pay tv.

The alliance between the NFL and Sky Sports, which has held for 30 years, is continuing, and will see the satellite provider broadcast more than half of all games live for each season of the new deal. Weekly double-headers and the iconic NFL Redzone will remain the cornerstone of the coverage, as Sky covers the league on Sky Sports NFL, Sky Sports+ and Sky Sports Mix. In addition to the two regular Sunday timeslots, the broadcaster will also feature all primetime matchups, the Thanksgiving Day triple-header, the playoffs and, of course, the Super Bowl.

The big change for the season ahead sees 5 take over from the BBC as the official free-to-air partner of the league in the UK. The NFL Big Game Night show, fronted by Dermot O’Leary, Sam Quek and former Giants and Falcons pass rusher Osi Omeniyora, will anchor the 6pm slot on Sunday nights, with 5 showing a live game at 6pm UK time and another from 9pm on sister channel 5Action. In addition to Sky, 5 will also have all the 2025 International Series games (with the NFL coming to Dublin, London, Berlin and Madrid) as well as Thanksgiving Specials, three playoff games and Super Bowl LX.

NFL Game Pass on DAZN will also remain a key player, allowing fans to watch games live and on-demand all season long, while still offering the precious All 22, Games in 40 and Sunday in 60.

Fans will now have more opportunities than ever to enjoy the NFL through a breadth of coverage across 5, Sky Sports and NFL Game Pass on DAZN,” director of international business development and media at the NFL, Laura Louisy, confirmed. “This new era of coverage will not only engage our loyal fanbase but also inspire new audiences to tune-in, showcasing the NFL’s passion, unpredictability and world-class entertainment.”

For fans of the wireless coverage, talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2 will provide coverage of 25 live games during the regular season, as well as Super Bowl LX. And if you somehow miss the action with all that in place, the NFL UK & Ireland YouTube channel will have The Weekly Blitz, bringing you highlights from the biggest moments from the latest games every Tuesday.

Growing fandom around the world is at the heart of the NFL’s international strategy, and partnering with media companies who enable us to reach the broadest of audiences through the lens of sport and entertainment is a critical pillar to our success in becoming a global sport,” said MD and head of NFL International Gerrit Meier. “The 2025 NFL season will see fans able to access the most comprehensive broadcast coverage in the U.K. to date, a market that continues to be a priority for the NFL as we accelerate global growth efforts, and we are excited to build on the passion of our existing fans while welcoming newcomers to unite and experience the sport together.”
