The Cleveland Browns have named Todd Monken as the franchise’s 19th full-time head coach, bringing the veteran offensive architect back to the Forest City for a second stint with the organisation.

Monken, 59, previously served as the Browns’ offensive coordinator in 2019 and finally becomes a first-time NFL head coach after 11 seasons in the league. He arrives with an extensive résumé spanning 37 seasons in coaching, including sustained success at both the professional and collegiate levels.

We are very excited to name Todd Monken the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns,” managing and principal partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam said in a statement. “Todd is highly intelligent, and his experienced, innovative offensive mindset has been at the forefront of constructing productive and successful offenses at the NFL and collegiate level over the last 20 years. We look forward to him establishing a winning culture that will lead our team to the success our fans so deserve.”

Most recently, Monken spent three seasons in which he regularly faced the Browns as offensive coordinator of AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens. In his first year calling plays there, quarterback Lamar Jackson earned his second NFL MVP award and, one season later, Baltimore finished with the number one offense for the first time in franchise history.

Across those three seasons, the Ravens ranked top five league-wide in multiple categories, including first in rushing yards (8,512), second in scrimmage yards (19,860) and third in points per game (27.9). Running back Derrick Henry led all NFL players in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns from 2023–25 under Monken’s guidance.

Todd has a varied and diverse background that we found as a particularly appealing match for our team at this stage in its life cycle,” GM and EVP of football operations Andrew Berry added.. “He has a direct, demanding and detail-oriented leadership style that will create a great incubator for a young team.”

Monken’s NFL résumé also includes a prolific run as offensive coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2016–18, where his offenses rewrote the club record book and helped wide receiver Mike Evans earn his first two Pro Bowl selections. During his earlier tenure in Cleveland, Monken oversaw an offense powered by Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr, all of whom posted career-defining production in 2019. He returns to the Browns with Quinshon Judkins, Shedeur Sanders, Jerry Jeudy and David Njoku leading the offensive firepower.
