Before Adam Vinatieri officially receives his gold jacket in Canton next month, the former Indianapolis and New England kicker has learned that his legacy will also be secured with a place in the Colts’ Ring of Honour.

Vinatieri will become the 21st member of the exclusive club during Indy’s Week 6 home game against the Tennessee Titans on October 18th, adding another milestone to a year that saw the legendary kicker elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame the night before Super Bowl LX.

Vinatieri spent 14 of his 24 NFL seasons in Indianapolis after arriving from New England in 2006. While his game-winning kicks launched the Patriots’ dynasty, he cemented his legacy with the Colts through remarkable longevity, finding the consistency to remain among the league’s elite well into his 40s. Vinatieri retired as the NFL’s all-time leading scorer with 2,673 points, while also holding league records for career field goals made (599), field goals attempted (715), consecutive field goals made (44) and seasons with at least 100 points (21).

His postseason résumé is equally compelling, and Vinatieri remains the NFL’s career leader in playoff points (238) and postseason field goals (56), winning four Super Bowls across two franchises and famously delivering two Lombardi-winning field goals for New England before playing a pivotal role in Indianapolis’ championship run following the 2006 season. During those playoffs, he converted an NFL-record 14 field goals in four games, accounting for every one of the Colts’ 15 points in their divisional-round victory over the Baltimore Ravens, before adding three more field goals in their Super Bowl XLI victory over the Chicago Bears.

His election to Canton earlier this year further reinforced a career that has long been viewed as the benchmark for NFL kickers.

“Adam Vinatieri is one of the most accomplished athletes football or any other sport has ever seen, and he is unequivocally the greatest kicker in NFL history,” Colts owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon said when Vinatieri’s Hall of Fame election was announced. “His iconic, game-winning kicks, his multitude of league records and his amazing longevity are legendary, and now, they have rightly earned him a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

Current Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason was equally unequivocal when discussing Vinatieri’s Hall of Fame credentials earlier this year.

“He’s the greatest kicker of all time. He’s the greatest kicker in playoff history, he can do it in all weather, he kicked at a high level well into his 40s. I think the list could go on,” Mason enthused.

The Ring of Honour induction further ties Vinatieri’s legacy to one of the most successful periods in Colts history, as he joins an illustrious group that includes Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis among the franchise’s all-time greats.
