When the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings kick off the European leg of the 2025 NFL International Series at Croke Park on Sunday 28^th September, it will mark the addition of a fifth country to the annual roster — and fulfill a long-held ambition of the Rooney family.

The Steelers owners can trace their lineage to various counties in the Republic of Ireland, and have pushed hard for a regular season game to be staged in its capital. It is only fitting therefore that the Steelers be present at the inauguration of what is expected to be a permanent stop on future International Series calendars.

The black-and-gold are no strangers to Dublin, or Croke Park, though, having already played a preseason game there, against the Chicago Bears, in 1997. Those exhibition games are a thing of the past now, and the ‘home’ team will face the invading Viking hordes with no quarter given this time around.

“We are thrilled to play in Ireland and give our fans a truly unique game day experience,” Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II said. “We can’t wait to see our devoted and enthusiastic fans — both our Irish fans and those who are traveling to Dublin to attend the game.”
