Gridiron Cheat Sheet – TNF Week 5
Gridiron‘s guide to acing the Thursday Night Football encounter between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots, in association with RedZoneSports.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (+10) @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
- Both teams have a whole heap of players listed as questionable for the game, monitoring who ends up inactive will be key
- The Colts are struggling for a rushing identity, splitting carries and catches between Nyheim Hines and Marlon Mack and sprinkling in a bit of Jordan Wilkins in the passing game, all of which has been largely unsuccessful. They should be glad to get Robert Turbin back from suspension to offer some stability, but maybe not this week
- Andrew Luck attempted seven passes of 20+ yards through weeks 1-3, but last week tried to put questions to bed by attempting six in one game, including staying in for the Hail Mary. He also graded his best game of the season with 464 yards, four TDs and no turnovers. The whispers may quieten now – although there may be some fatigue later in the season if he continues to throw 62 passes a game
- Tom Brady hasn’t thrown for 300+ yards in any game this season. The Patriots get Julian Edelman back from suspension and, with Josh Gordon getting more involved, the passing offense should start to get its identity back
- They also may become who we thought they were. Drafting a running back in the first round means they think Sony Michel is an every down prospect, and he had his breakout game last week with 25 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. James White will still play a significant role, seeing seven more snaps last week.
- The Colts had a tough game last week – until Frank Reich went for it on 4th down in OT, handing the game to the Texans – with the defense on the field for 86 snaps compared to the Patriots unit with 49. Going on the road on a short week looks a tough ask
GRIDIRON BET OF THE NIGHT
