AFLE AGREES SWISS FREE-TO-AIR DEAL
The American Football League Europe has expanded its broadcast reach by agreeing a free-to-air partnership with Swiss Sport TV for the remainder of its inaugural season.
The agreement gives viewers across Switzerland access to every remaining Alpine Rams game, both playoff fixtures and the Gold Bowl without requiring a subscription. Coverage is available through Swiss Sport TV’s linear channel, web platform and dedicated video services.
Although announced on Monday, the arrangement began two days earlier with the Rams’ 59–6 defeat at Rhein Fire. The timing means the broadcaster has acquired only the closing weeks of Alpine’s season, with the 1–8 expansion team already eliminated from playoff contention, but its commitment to the postseason ensures Swiss viewers can follow the championship race through to the Gold Bowl in Duisburg on September 6th.
For the AFLE, the deal provides a national broadcast outlet in another of its eight inaugural markets. It also gives the Rams greater domestic exposure during a difficult first campaign in which the team has struggled to convert its place in a continent-wide competition into success on the field.
“Free-to-air television in Switzerland is exactly what the Alpine Rams and their fans deserve heading into the final stretch of our inaugural season,” AFLE head of communications Fabienne Lampe said. “Securing this partnership towards the end of our inaugural season shows how quickly the AFLE is gaining ground in new markets, and it gives Swiss fans a front-row seat not to just every remaining Alpine Rams game, but to the playoffs and the AFLE Gold Bowl 2026 as well.”
Founded in 2007 and based in Hochdorf, in the canton of Lucerne, Swiss Sport TV carries more than 2,500 hours of live action and other programming drawn from over 25 sports. Its involvement gives the AFLE a platform beyond existing American football audiences as the league attempts to establish a sustainable presence across its participating countries.
“Swiss sports are close to our hearts, so we’re delighted to be able to broadcast the Alpine Rams in action as well as the AFLE final games live, showcasing the best football players from Switzerland and Europe,” Swiss Sport TV programme and communications representative Simon von Allmen said. “American football definitely deserves more attention, and we’re proud to offer this sport a fitting platform.”
The deal continues the AFLE’s market-by-market approach to distribution, with domestic accessibility particularly important for clubs seeking to build support beyond established football followers. While its late-season introduction limits the number of Rams games included this year, coverage of the playoffs and Gold Bowl gives Swiss Sport TV an immediate opportunity to present the league’s leading teams before any continuation of the partnership is considered for 2027.
