AUSTRIAN LEAGUE CONFIRMS ENTHRONERS APPROACH
Reports that the Fehérvár Enthroners will not be a part of whatever emerges from the ongoing standoff between the European League of Football and European Football Alliance have been given credence by the Austrian Football League.
A social media post by @WaickDiTeacha first suggested that a decision to withdraw the Enthroners from future continental competition may have been taken some time ago, even though the Hungarian outfit completed the season looking like a team making improvements each time they took to the field. Now, however, an Instagram post from the Austrian league has confirmed that Fehérvár has been in touch regarding a possible application to join up for 2026.
“After receiving several inquiries about the AFL 2026 and the participating teams, the AFBÖ would like to take this opportunity to provide an update,” the post read. “We are currently in close contact with the current AFL teams to jointly develop the league and set the course for the coming years. Our shared goal is to ensure the sustainable growth of the AFL while simultaneously offering exciting and interesting matches for the football community.
“As part of our future planning, there have been and continue to be discussions between the AFBÖ and the Fehérvár Enthroners from Hungary about participating in the AFL 2026. However, we will only officially present the AFL 2026 as a complete picture once all parameters have been finalised and the internal processes have been completed.”
With 11 of the current 16 teams now aligned with the EFA and, of those that aren’t, only the Munich Ravens having the proven calibre to match up to them, the Enthroners look likely to be joined by the Cologne Centurions, Helvetic Mercenaries and Hamburg Sea Devils in leaving the party next season.
