In further good news for the European Football Alliance, the Frankfurt Galaxy have appointed a head coach for the upcoming 2026 campaign.

The German club, a stalwart of football on the old continent, finally showed signs of life in what has been a difficult offseason for everyone involved in pan-European competition when they began advertising for various positions last week, and have now moved to appoint Thomas Kösling as the man to lead the team into the inaugural EFA season.

Kösling is no stranger to the Galaxy, and will be returning as head coach after taking a step back last season. In charge throughout Frankfurt’s European League of Football incarnation (2021-24), the German was in charge when they won the first ELF championship game, and his return ensures a welcome degree of experience, familiarity and continuity that will be needed for what could be a turbulent European season with rival leagues and factions still pressing forward with their own agendas.

Kösling is more than just a coach, however, having been responsible for building the team, its culture and strategic direction, which in turn provided the necessary stability to have weathered the current situation with both the EFA and AFLE primed to launch their own leagues and the battle-scarred ELF also hoping to continue in 2026.

Having conducted a comprehensive, structured search for a new head coach in the wake of Bart Andrus’ departure at the end of the 2025 campaign, Frankfurt remains convinced that Kösling is the best choice for now. His experience, identification with the team and ability to connect people are deemed ideal for what will be an important phase for both club and competition.

To provide Kösling with the best possible support, and help establish a modern, professional structure, the club aims to hire two full-time US coordinators, as well as additional full-time positional coaches who will share responsibility for offense and defense with the HC in a ‘collaborative, innovative and stable coaching team’.
