CENTURIONS OWNER STEPS BACK
One half of the Cologne Centurions new ownership double-act has stepped away from the club just weeks before the start of the new European League of Football campaign.
Kevin Tewe, the nationally-renowned entrepreneur who took charge of the Centurions with Senad Mecavica just last month, has admitted that the project was way bigger than he had anticipated.
“Some decisions are not easy – and I would like to share exactly such a decision with you today,” Tewe wrote on a LinkedIn post. “A few weeks ago, I was really looking forward to the adventure of becoming part of the Cologne Centurions and working together on a strong future for the franchise. In the discussions and the first phase of the cooperation, I felt a lot of enthusiasm and was able to gain exciting insights into the world of the European League of Football.
“At the same time, I have noticed in recent weeks that the actual operational effort and the associated issues are much greater than I had originally estimated.
As an entrepreneur and family man, I have become aware that I would not be able to live up to this commitment with the necessary attention and energy at the moment without neglecting other important areas of my life. After intensive discussions and careful consideration, I have therefore decided to end my involvement with the Cologne Centurions.
“This decision is not made out of frustration or disappointment, but rather out of the desire to remain true to my own values – commitment and quality. I would like to thank all those involved for the trust they have placed in me, the open exchange and the opportunity to have been part of this project. I wish the Cologne Centurions and the entire ELF only the best for the future and much success on and off the field!”
The Centurions, one of the eight founding members of the ELF in 2021, have yet to post a winning season, having twice finished .500, but know what it is like to reach the playoffs, having lost in the inaugural campaign’s semi-finals to eventual champions Frankfurt. Mecavica, managing director of Novel Media GmbH, will continue in his role as the Centurions look forward to kicking off their 2025 season on the road at Berlin Thunder on 18th May.
