DAZN TO SHOW UFL
Every game of the second season of the United Football League (UFL) will be free to watch globally thanks to a deal the league has signed with NFL Game Pass carrier DAZN.
The spring league’s second season kicked off last Friday night (28th March) as the St. Louis Battlehawks secured a road victory over the Houston Roughnecks, but the biggest shock was saved for last as the reigning champion Birmingham Stallions were taken down by the DC Defenders — despite the capital’s team having parted ways with former HC Reggie Barlow just a week before the season began.
The deal with the UFL adds the burgeoning championship to DAZN’s existing NFL coverage and that of the impending European League of Football’s fifth year, as well as the extensive portfolio of free multisport content the streaming broadcaster already show. The UFL action will continue through to its championship game on 14th June.
“The United Football League is proud to join DAZN’s world-class lineup of sports offerings,” Wendy Bass, UFL EVP of business operations & administration, commented. “This league is focused on expanding the global footprint of American football and DAZN is the perfect partner to help us reach that goal.”
The league features eight teams – four former USFL and four former XFL teams — playing in divisions named after their former home. The USFL Conference is made up of the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats and Michigan Panthers, while the XFL Conference includes the Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks. With DAZN, all eight teams will have their games available to fans in over 200 markets, across multiple internet-enabled devices and distribution channels.
“DAZN’s dedicated audience of sports fans already enjoys a wide range of American football content on our platform, and our partnership with the United Football League is an exciting extension of this portfolio and will support the growth of this sport’s reach worldwide,” DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev confirmed. “DAZN’s is committed to creating the ultimate destination for sports entertainment, and offering the United Football League’s 2025 season to fans for free aligns with this ambition.”
