On a day when news from the European professional football arena was dominated by confirmation that the feared ELF-EFA split was to happen for 2026, one of this year’s ELF regulars has remove itself from the conversation.

As reported a couple of weeks ago, the Fehérvár Enthroners declared that they were looking to return to national competition and, having made an approach to the Austrian league to take a spot in its 2026 line-up, have now confirmed that that is where they will be playing next season.

In an Instagram post directed to fans, the Enthroners reflected on a tough period in which they were always underdogs in the ELF before revealing confirmation of their future plans.

“Over the past three years, our journey in the European League of Football has been full of highs and lows. While we couldn’t match Europe’s top teams, we grew stronger, built a true famil and made great progress together.

“Unfortunately, by 2025, the ELF fractured, clubs folded, teams withdrew and stability was lost. That’s why we’ve accepted the invitation of the Austrian American Football Federation and will compete in Austria’s top division, the AFL, starting in 2026.

“This is a historic step for Hungarian football. Our goal: to build a championship team in Székesfehérvár and, one day, reach the Austrian Bowl!

“While we don’t rule out returning to a pan-European league in the future, right now the AFL is the best path for our club and academy.

“ Thank you for your support throughout this adventure. For now, the focus is clear: AFL 2026 — let’s make history together!

“Go Enthroners! Fear the E!”

The European League of Football claims that it has ‘11 valid contracts’ with teams for 2026, although this number is expected to include several clubs already siding with the European Football Alliance and its plans to go it alone next season.
