MERCENARIES MAKING MOVES FOR 2026
Far from disappearing from the professional football scenario in Europe, the Helvetic Mercenaries have been hard at work laying the foundations of their 2026 roster.
The Swiss team is slated to continue in the European League of Football next season and, in spite of the emergence of the Alpine Rams as a potential threat within their own borders, have made three important signings that present a clear statement for the year ahead. The combination of returning players and a high-profile new signing from the Alberta Football League strengthens the Mercenaries’ core roster and underlines the ambition to compete at the top level of European football.
The roster offensive began with the return of a true Mercenaries home-grown talent in Osteen Diacoumidis, the defensive back signing to once again wear red and black in 2026 after coming to embody the team’s identity in a difficult 2025 campaign.
“I’m returning because it felt like home from the very first game,” Diacoumidis explained, “…and the best feeling is playing in front of the Swiss home fans in the top European league.”
Wide receiver Kobe Miranda has also rejoined Helvetic for 2026, bringing his physical presence and big-play abilities to a passing game that will look to take a step forward next season. Miranda’s athleticism and experience will be key factors in making the Mercenaries’ aerial attack both dynamic and versatile, but Swiss fans can also look forward to an entertaining ground game following the signing of dominant dual-threat running back Bryce Harper.
Not to be confused with the MLB player of the same name, Harper’s track record speaks for itself as a two time national champion with the Calgary Gators, with multiple MVP awards to follow being voted as the league’s rookie of the year. Compiling over 3,000 total yards in just 16 games demonstrates the explosive and versatile play Harper brings to the Mercenaries, but the player also insists that moving to Switzerland is a conscious statement of his intent.
“I chose the Mercenaries and Switzerland because I see an organisation here that is ready to play at the highest level,” the 30-year-old commented. “Excellence and professionalism are important to me, and this team has the potential to achieve something great. I am ready to do my part.”
