MORE MAYR FOR VIKINGS
The Vienna Vikings have secured one of their most dangerous offensive weapons for another run at a European title, confirming that Yannick Mayr will return for the 2026 season.
The Salzburg-born speedster and reigning IFAF European champion has signed a one-year extension, ensuring continuity in a receiver room already brimming with talent. With former NFL tight end Bernhard Seikovits, US import Darrell Stewart Jr, 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year Noah Toure, Emil Eckerstorfer and tight end Vito Millauer also under contract, Vienna’s aerial arsenal is rapidly taking shape.
“We are very pleased that our previous receiver announcements have been so overwhelmingly well-received in the football community,” said football operations director Lenard Oberladstätter. “Recruiting and negotiations in the off-season are always demanding, but when the ink dries on the contract of a desired player, it makes every sleepless night worthwhile. Looking at our board, we are certain that we will have the best roster in Europe in 2026.”
Alongside Mayr’s extension, the Vikings have added Mike Gentili as receiver coach. Gentili cited the organisation’s reputation and existing relationships as key factors in his decision to join up.
“I chose to sign with the Vikings for several reasons: It’s the top franchise in Europe, well-respected around the world for being run in a very professional manner, which really appealed to me,” he said. “The opportunity to work closely with and learn from some of the best coaches in Europe, including Coach Calaycay, Coach Neuman, and the rest of the staff, is a bonus.”
Gentili also believes his position group has elite potential.
“I think the WR/TE position room at the Vikings has the depth of talent to be not just the best WR room but possibly the most talented position group in all of Europe, regardless of league,” he emphasised.
For Vienna, however, the headline is Mayr’s return — a proven game-breaker staying put as the Vikings reload for 2026.
