PANTHERS ADD VERSATILE GERMAN TO FRONTLINE
Panthers Wrocław have reinforced their offensive line ahead of the inaugural AFLE season by signing German lineman Malte Hrabak, reuniting the former Braunschweig standout with coach Troy Tomlin in Poland.
Hrabak arrives in Wrocław after three seasons with the New Yorker Lions’ senior side, having originally started his football career in 2019 following a switch from handball. During his time with the Lions, he developed into both a multi-position lineman and a locker-room leader, eventually serving as team captain — but the existing relationship with Tomlin proved central to the move.
“We worked with Coach Tomlin for four seasons and stayed in touch after he moved to Wrocław,” Hrabak said. “Honestly, coming to Wrocław and playing for the Panthers was a perfect fit. I received a job offer in Germany and spoke with Coach Tomlin the same day, who asked if such a move would be possible for me.”
The German adds flexibility to the Panthers front, with experience at both guard and tackle — something that could prove valuable in Tomlin’s offensive system as Wrocław prepare for life in the AFLE.
“I usually played guard but, due to injuries last season in Braunschweig, I had to play tackle, and I felt quite comfortable there,” Hrabak explained. “Ultimately, however, I will play wherever the team needs me. I hope the fans will see me most often on the winning side.”
Building cohesion quickly up front will be critical for a Panthers side entering a new era, but Hrabak believes the foundations are already being laid within the squad.
“I think we’ve already started building bonds within the group,” he said. “My first meeting with all the guys was great; they seem very friendly. Besides, I played with Amos [Laoye] in 2022, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since.”
Hrabak also arrives with a reputation for understated leadership rather than vocal theatrics, an approach he intends to carry into the Panthers locker room.
“For me, it simply means: showing up on time and always being prepared,” he explained. “I give it my all on the pitch — less talk, more action — and I’m excited to get started.”
The move will mark Hrabak’s first prolonged stay in Wrocław, though the offensive lineman said the feedback from those around him has only heightened anticipation ahead of his debut at the Olympic Stadium.
“I’m very excited about the atmosphere here,” he said. “I’ve never been to Wrocław before; I’ve only heard stories, but none of them were negative. I’m lucky because my friends and family are incredibly supportive, and they can’t wait to see matchday here.”
