STORM SIGN SWEDISH RUTGERS LINEMAN
The Nordic Storm is bringing in reinforcements to keep quarterback Jadrian Clark upright as the European League of Football new boys seeks to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
Swedish-American offensive lineman Samuel Wretman joins the Storm roster ahead of their Week 6 rematch with the Wroclaw Panthers, bringing ‘elite pedigree and international experience’ to the offensive front. A native of Sweden with a strong football heritage, Wretman played four years at Rutgers University, appearing for the Scarlet Knights in the 2021 Gator Bowl against Wake Forest at the end of a tough campaign in the Big 10 conference.
Wretman’s time at Rutgers was preceded by a standout youth career that began with the Arlanda Jets before heading to the IMG Academy in Florida, and then high schools in Idaho and Connecticut through the International Federation of
American Football (IFAF) pipeline. After college, Wretman returned to Sweden and joined the Stockholm Mean Machines, where he quickly became a cornerstone at left tackle and helped lead the team make a deep playoff run in the Superserien playoffs. His return to Swedish football was not only a professional decision, though, as his father, Christer Wretman, had also been a player for the Mean Machines, and Samuel grew up around the club.
“Samuel’s journey from Sweden to NCAA football and back again speaks volumes
about his resilience, work ethic and football IQ,” a representative of the Storm noted. “He brings physicality, leadership and a professional mindset to our offensive line, and we are thrilled to have him in the trenches.”
Wretman not only joins a Storm squad that continues to elevate the standard for
American football in Scandinavia, but also underscores the team’s commitment to
combining homegrown talent with international experience in pursuit of ELF success.
