THIS GIVEN SUNDAY – UFL WK8: KINGS REPEAT DC DEFEAT
The race for the 2026 United Football League playoffs tightened considerably in Week 8 as the Louisville Kings completed a second straight victory over the DC Defenders, the Houston Gamblers stunned the St. Louis Battlehawks on the road, and the Orlando Storm officially punched their postseason ticket.

DC Defenders 30 @ 33 Louisville Kings
The Louisville Kings continued their remarkable turnaround by beating the DC Defenders 33-30 at Lynn Family Stadium, securing a second consecutive victory over the reigning champions and early 2026 pacesetters.
The game exploded into life immediately when Jordan Ta’amu connected with Ty Scott for a 41-yard touchdown on the opening snap from scrimmage. Undeterred, however, Louisville answered instantly as Tyler Hudson returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.
Quarterback Chandler Rogers guided Louisville efficiently, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Winstead produced five catches for 92 yards and a score. Running back James Robinson added a goal-line touchdown as the Kings repeatedly answered DC rallies.
Despite losing Ta’amu to injury in the second quarter, the Defenders still piled up 337 total yards, with Xazavian Valladay rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown and Abram Smith adding another score on the ground. But four turnovers proved costly for DC, and Louisville’s defense made enough late stops to preserve the win.
DC scored in the closing seconds and still had a chance to force overtime, but failed on a three-point conversion attempt before also coming up short on the alternative fourth-and-12 possession play. The Kings simply knelt out the clock to seal arguably their biggest win of the season.

Houston Gamblers 23 @ 16 St Louis Battlehawks
The Houston Gamblers produced one of the shocks of the 2026 season by walking into The Dome at America’s Center and defeating the St. Louis Battlehawks 23-16.
Quarterback Hunter Dekkers led the upset with an efficient performance, completing 15 of 22 passes for 155 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He struck early with touchdown passes to Jontre Kirklin and Lawrence Keys III as Houston seized control. But it was a huge defensive moment, when Kary Vincent Jr. returned an interception for a touchdown, that really helped the Gamblers establish a lead they never fully surrendered.
St Louis moved the ball effectively through veteran quarterback Luis Perez, who threw for 308 yards and a touchdown, but his two interceptions proved decisive. Receiver Steven McBride was outstanding with eight catches for 116 yards, while tight end Tyler Neville caught a late touchdown that briefly gave the Battlehawks hope.
The home team mounted one final drive in the closing seconds, but Houston’s defense held firm near the goal line to secure the upset and throw the playoff race wide open. The loss dropped St Louis to 5-3, level with DC and only one game ahead of Houston and Louisville entering the final stretch.

Orlando Storm 31 @ 24 Dallas Renegades
The weekend opened with the Orlando Storm doing enough to become the first team to officially clinch a playoff berth after beating the Dallas Renegades 31-24 on the road.
The game, played at the active Fort Hood military base, saw quarterback Jack Plummer again orchestrate the Storm offense superbly, throwing for 238 yards while also rushing for two touchdowns. Orlando finished with 367 total yards and extended their winning streak to six games.
Dallas initially appeared in control after Austin Reed connected with Emmanuel Butler for a touchdown following an early field goal, but Plummer responded with a rushing score before Orlando gradually took over after half-time.
The Renegades repeatedly battled back, including a touchdown connection between Reed and tight end Seth Green, while running back Ellis Merriweather provided balance on the ground with 75 rushing yards, but Orlando always seemed to have another answer. Running back Jashaun Corbin powered in for a crucial touchdown in the second half, while receiver Chris Rowland caught nine passes for 91 yards.
Dallas still had an opportunity late, but a decisive interception on fourth down ended the comeback attempt and officially eliminated the Renegades from playoff contention despite starting the season 3-0.

Columbus Aviators 3 @ 14 Birmingham Stallions
The Birmingham Stallions leaned on defense to defeat the Columbus Aviators 14-3 in a rugged defensive battle at Protective Stadium. Neither offense found much rhythm early, with Birmingham taking a narrow 7-3 lead into the fourth quarter before finally creating separation late on.
Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson completed 12 of 20 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown despite throwing an interception, while former NFL receiver Justyn Ross delivered the game’s biggest offensive highlight with a touchdown reception. On the other side of the ball, Birmingham’s defense consistently frustrated Columbus quarterback Jalan McClendon, who threw for 150 yards but was intercepted twice.
The Stallions’ rushing attack never fully established itself, though Tyrion Davis-Price contributed tough yardage in difficult conditions. Birmingham instead relied on field position, defensive pressure and disciplined situational football to grind out their third straight victory.
The win lifted Birmingham back to .500 at 4-4 and further tightened the battle for postseason places behind league leaders Orlando. Columbus, meanwhile, slipped to 2-6 and now faces a near-impossible climb to remain relevant in the playoff race.

Through eight weeks of the regular season, the Storm, with a postseason appearance in their pocket, lead the way with a 6-2 record. Behind them, however, the race for the remaining places remains wide open, with St Louis and DC at 5-3 after both suffering defeats at the weekend, and both Birmingham and Louisville hanging in there at 4-4. The final two weeks of scheduled play now have little meaning for Dallas, Houston and Columbus, but a lot riding on them elsewhere, particularly for the reigning champions who must navigate home and away encounters with Orlando to ensure their pursuit of back-to-back titles continues.
