UFL STARS HEAD FOR NFL TRAINING CAMPS

The now traditional flow of spring football players to NFL training camps has begun in earnest, with the first names being announced within days of the DC Defenders winning the United Football League title.

While no members of either the new champion or the defeated Michigan Panthers have been included on the list, leading rusher Jashaun Corbin (San Antonio Brahmas) has lined up with the Atlanta Falcons and no fewer than three players from the outgoing champion Birmingham Stallions have also revealed where they will be spending the summer.

Additionally, Arlington Renegades tight end Sal Cannella has signed with the Cleveland Browns, having been a key contributor for the club throughout the 2025 UFL season. Starting all 10 games, Cannella led the Renegades with 44 receptions for 474 yards and one touchdown, earning All-UFL honors. Among league leaders, he ranked sixth in total receiving yards, the highest finish for a tight end, and was second in total receptions, again topping all tight ends, as he had over his two previous seasons with Arlington. In 2024, he appeared in all 10 games, recording 53 receptions for 496 yards and six touchdowns and, the year prior, helped lead the Texas team to an XFL Championship, finishing the season with 42 catches for 415 yards.

Throughout his professional career, the Auburn product has spent time in multiple NFL training camps, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2024), Seattle Seahawks (2023), Green Bay Packers (2022) and Miami Dolphins (2021), each time making it through to the final roster cuts. He also earned a workout with the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 and participated in mini-camp with the Chicago Bears two years before that.

Staying in Texas, Stallions D-lineman Perrion Winfrey has signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Winfrey appeared in all 10 regular season games in 2025, making six starts for 29 tackles, two for loss, a sack, four pass breakups and a forced fumble. The former Oklahoma Sooner started in the USFL Conference Championship game, totalling four tackles and a sack for an 11-yard loss. Like Cannella, Winfrey was named to the 2025 All-UFL team.

Drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 108th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Winfrey appeared in 13 games during his rookie season before being waived and heading to the New York Jets practice squad. He first signed with the Birmingham Stallions in October 2024.

Two of Winfrey’s team-mates will also see time in training camp this summer with cornerback Mario Goodrich signing with the Denver Broncos and kicker Harrison Mevis with the Jets.

Goodrich contributed 19 tackles, 15 of which were solo stops, plus one tackle for loss, five pass breakups and a team-leading three forced fumbles in 2025. The former Clemson Tiger, who played four years under Dabo Swinney, initially signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted in 2022 and spent two seasons on the practice squad before being waived and claimed off the waivers by the New York Giants. Waived again before the 2024 season, Goodrich sign with the Stallions in February of this year.

Mevis, meanwhile, played in all 10 regular season games for the Stallions this year and connected on 20-of-21 field goals during the regular season, with a long of 54 yards. His lone miss was on a 63-yard attempt against Memphis in Week 5. Nicknamed ‘The Thiccer Kicker’, the Missouri product then started in the USFL Conference Championship game, drilling one of his two 56-yard field goal attempts in a losing effort against Michigan.

Mevis was a four-year starter for Eli Drinkwitz at Mizzou and had an excellent collegiate career, connecting on 86-of-103 field goals (83.5%) setting an SEC record with a 61-yard score as time expired to defeat Kansas State in 2023. Coming out of college, Mevis signed as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers after the conclusion of the 2024 draft but was waived a few months later. He joined the Stallions in December 2024.

In all cases where UFL players receive opportunities in the NFL, their 2025 team retains their rights ahead of next season.
