The Wroclaw Panthers continue to add former Stuttgart Surge players to their roster ahead of the 2026 American Football League Europe season, bringing in 23-year-old defensive back Marko Vidačković alongside Mike Harley Jr and Ben Wenzler.

Although Vidačković’s parents originally hail from Croatia, he was born in Germany, and began his American football career in 2015 with the Stuttgart Scorpions, but his career really took off when he took his talents overseas to Lincoln High School. Excellent performances there — both as a wide receiver and defensive back — led to offers from universities such as Black Hills State, Linfield College, Western Oregon… and the University of Oregon.

Ultimately, and perhaps unsurprisingly. Vidačković decided to join the Ducks and get the experience of playing on one of the best college football programmes in the United States.

My time at the University of Oregon was the best time of my life,” he smiles. “Since I was a child, I dreamed of playing for a top college programme, so seeing it come true was incredibly exciting. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would turn out this way, but it just proves that even the wildest dreams can come true if you put your mind to them and work hard.

I look back on these five years with immense gratitude. I made countless memories and made lifelong friends who shaped me as a person. I deeply appreciate everything I was able to experience. The football programme instilled in me many habits and life lessons that will stay with me forever. There are so many incredible people working there — and the bond I formed with my team-mates, whom I now call my brothers, is extraordinary. There’s nothing comparable to the experience of college football and I wouldn’t trade my time in Eugene for anything in the world.”

After graduating, however, Vidačković returned to Europe, joining the Surge for the 2024 season and quickly developing into one of the team’s leading lights. Remaining with the Surge for 2025, Vidačković was rewarded with a run all the way to the European League of Football title, but insists that there was much to be gained from being a part of the club.

The most valuable lesson I learned in Stuttgart is the importance of team unity,” he revealed. “While we were undoubtedly one of the most talented groups in the league, I believe it was our bond that carried us to the championship. Many teams had equally talented rosters, but it was our relationship that gave us an edge over the rest. We knew that, no matter what happened in the match, there was no challenge we couldn’t overcome as a team. That was the difference — we played for each other from the first to the last minute of every game. The 2025 ELF season with the Stuttgart Surge was the most fun I’ve ever had playing football.

The second thing I learned was the attention to detail, week after week. Our coaches did an incredible job planning the games and preparing us through video analysis of our opponents. As a defense, we identified many weaknesses and repetitive behaviours in our opponents’ attacks, which helped us gain an advantage on the pitch. Kudos to the coaches for preparing us, and to the entire team for delving into analysis to gain an advantage on Sunday matchdays. Every detail of the preparation mattered, and we knew it would determine whether we would get where we wanted to be – the 2025 European Championship.”

Despite only being 23, his experience makes Vidačković a likely pillar of the Panthers defense heading into the 2026 season, and he’s keen to continue his successful run in Poland.

I want to bring this ‘championship DNA’ to Wroclaw to immediately impact the culture and the team,” he confirmed. “We have a great opportunity for a special year in 2026. Mike and Ben’s signings in Wroclaw certainly influenced my decision, as I’m very close to them and I believe they’re both among the best players in Europe. Both will have incredible seasons and have championship experience.

Ben and I have a lot of shared experience playing for the Stuttgart Surge, but also with the German national team. Our relationship goes back to our youth days with the Stuttgart Scorpions. I trust him 100 percent and always know how to play around him, just as he knows how to react to my moves. We have great chemistry on the pitch and pride ourselves on closing down our half of the field together.”

Vidačković is also eager to dive into the preseason preparation, having spoken with Panthers head coach Dave Likins prior to signing.

I had great conversations with Coach Likins during the recruitment process, and really like the defensive scheme he runs as I’ve already had two years of experience with him,” the player revealed. “I used the same system during my last two years at Oregon. It’s an elite scheme that can make our defense very dominant. There’s a reason top programmes like Oregon, Georgia, and Alabama utilise this defensive system.

I’m a very passionate player and I try to show that passion whenever I’m on the field. I would describe my playing style as aggressive — I love physical contact and aggressive tackles. Football is a great outlet for emotions and has been my greatest passion for many years. Now I want to reach the playoffs and win a championship with Wroclaw.”
